【题干】Passenger pigeons(旅鸽) once flew over much of the United States in unbelievable numbers.Written accounts from the 18th and 19th centuries described flocks(群) so large that they darkened the sky for hours.
It was calculated that when its population reached its highest point, there were more tban 3 bilbon passenger pigeons-a number equal t0 24 to 40 percent of the total bird population in the United States, making it perhaps the most abundant bird in the world.Even as late as 1870 when their numbers had already become smaller,a flock believed to be I mile wide and 320 miles( about 515 kilometers)long was seen near Cincinnati.
Sadly, the abundance of passenger pigeons may have been their undoing.Where the birds were most abundant, people believed there was an ever-lasting supply and killed them by the thousands.Commercial hunters attracted them to small clearings with grain, waited until pigeons had settled to feed, then threw large nets over them, taking hundreds at a time. The birds were shipped to large cities and sold in restaurants.
By the closing decades of the 19th century, the hardwood forests where passenger pigeons nested had been damaged by Americans' need for wood, which scattered(驱散) the flocks and forced the birds to go farther north, where cold temperatures and spring storms contributed to their decline.Soon the great flocks were gone, never to be seen again.
In 1897 ,the state of Michigan passed a law prohibiting the killing of passenger pigeons, but by then,no shable flocks had been seen in the state for 10 years. The last confirmed wild pigeon in the United States was shot by a boy in Pike County,Ohio,in 1900.For a time,a few birds survived under human care. The last of them, known affectionately as Mariha, died at the Cincinnati Zoological Carden on September 1,1914.

It is sometimes said that strange flying objects have been seen high up in the sky. 44. The challenge invites, even dares school students和第二段的第一句话Students are being dared to...

We met in a crowded showroom fifteen years ago.As I inched forward I eyed him with suspicion, unsure what to make of this stranger.A salesman made the proper introductions and although we got to know each other,I didn't trust him.I call him Super.I would find myself staring at him, wondering what secrets he held.
I found myself spending more and more time with Super, getting to know him and learning to trust him.My other friends soon became a little jealous, stating that I spent too much time with him. It was true, but I didn't feel guilty, for I could just be myself with him.He didn't care about my appearance, pay and failure.None of these things mattered to him.
Then one day he said he was going to show me the world. He said that I could ask to go anywhere. When I asked him to show me New York,he didn't hesitate. He showed me the bright lights of Broadway, the majestic Statue of Liberty and so much more.
Late at night we played games. Sometimes I won, and sometimes he did.It didn't matter because we had fun.Through him I met other people, men and women I never would have met if it wasn't for him.
Then suddenly he became sick.He was unable to do anything and I felt so helpless because I didn't know what was wrong. But I knew those who could.I paced around the room while he was examined. What if it was something serious What if he died I cried but luckily he was fine again.
I looked at him and saw my companion, teacher, instructor, travel guide and so much more.He was my friend,my best friend. He is my computer.

A.Because Super helps the author do his housework.
B.Because the author spent so much money on it.
C.Because the author spent so much time on it.
D.Because the author trust nobody but Super.
49.The underlined sentence most probably implies________.
A.the connection of the Internet broadened the author's sight
B.Super was a good guide since he was bought from America
C.Super invited the author to make a trip around the world
D.Super had the power to speak out like an ordinary person
50.Why did the author feel helpless when his best friend got sick

B.He didn't know who could save Super at that time.
C.He didn't know how to deal with Super's "sickness".
D.He was worried that he would have to change a new friend.
【答案】47.B 48.C 49.A 50.C
第二段中的stating that I spent too much time with him说明作者的朋友们忌妒的原因是因为他花在Super身上的时间太多了。
画线句中的“to show me the world”和下一句话“He said that I could ask to go anywhere”说明正是因为在互联网的帮助下,作者才能了解他想要了解的一切。
第五段的“because I didn't know what was wrong”说明作者感到无助是因为对Super的“病因”一无所知。 But I knew those who could.

Studying Abroad
In recent years, studying abroad has been popular with Chinese high school students.Tens of thousands of them have gone to foreign countries to study. Many students are trying their best to go abroad. As for this, different people have different opinions.
There are many advantages in studying abroad.First, students who study abroad can make friends with people of different cultures. Second, they can learn much more advanced knowledge of science and technology in foreign countries.Third, they can improve their foreign languages more quickly.
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages. Most of the students are too young to live by themselves without any living experience. Moreover, being far away from their motherland, they may feel lonely and homesick. And further more, the high cost is also a problem for common families.
In my opinion, for the students who want to study abroad, they can ask teachers or students who have studied abroad for advice and they should try to get everything ready before attending school abroad.

Recently an online survey on traveling has been conducted. In the survey, people are asked about how often and why they travel, and the results are as follows.
Chart 1 shows that 33% of the people often go traveling, the reason for which lies in the fact that they have enough time and money. Nearly half of the people do it now and then, while those who seldom go out to travel account for 21%.
As is shown in Chart 2, people travel for different reasons. The largest percentage of people, about 48%,put enjoying beautiful natural scenery in the first place for their travel. Over a quarter of them enjoy learning about culture and customs and 20% of them prefer to visit places of interest. Also there are a small number of people who travel mainly for shopping.
As for me, traveling is not only a good way to relax and enjoy myself but also a chance to broaden my horizons.
