【题干】 There have always been a lot of commonly believed but false ideas about being fat and doing exercise. Some people believe that they can't help putting on weight as they get older, while others hold that if they stop exercising, their muscles will turn into fat. Here are some more myths:
I'll never lose weight-I come from a fat family
Wrong! While we can9t change the body type we are born with, we can't blame our genes for making us fat. There's plenty of evidence that fatness runs in families, and the main reason is that they share the same habits of eating too much and exercising too little.
I am fat because I burn calories slowly
Wrong! Fatness is not caused by a slow metabolism(新陈代谢).In fact, although fat people consume more energy than slim people, they also fail to realize how much they eat! Keeping a diary can help you work out your daily food intake more accurately.
Exercise is boring
Wrong! Anything will become boring if you do it repetitively. The key is to develop a balanced and varied program that's fun as well as progressive. If you enjoy a Sunday walk, take a different route. If you do yoga, try a tai chi class. If you like swimming, set yourself a distance or time challenge.
No pain, no gain
Wrong! Exercise is not meant to hurt. Indeed, pain is your body telling you something's wrong, and continuing to exercise could lead to serious injury. You may experience mild discomfort as you begin to exercise regularly, but this is your body adapting to the positive changes in your lifestyle and the aches should disappear relatively quickly. If they don't, rest and seek medical advice.
l.What does the author think about being fat

B.People are fat because they consume too little energy.

A.By taking varied exercise.
B.By choosing simple exercise.
C.By doing regular exercise.
D.By sticking to outdoor exercise.
3.What is the author's opinion out "No pain, no gain" in exercising
A.Keeping fit is essentially a painful experience.
B.Exercise should be stopped if continuous pain is felt.
C.Pain in exercise is a precondition for reaching your goal.
D.Getting used to pain leads to positive changes in your body.
4.What is the purpose of the passage
A.To declare the importance of keeping fit.

Last December, I performed 30 shows during 11 days. I knew it would be a tiring tour before I set off, but I just wanted to be there to support our men and women.
When I arrived at the army, the soldiers were cheering, singing along at the top of their voices. I had given hundreds of concerts, but it was my first time to perform for troops. Looking at the smiling faces of these soldiers, I felt great joy moving through me. They were the loveliest fans I had ever met. Then, from out of nowhere words came into my head. “I want to play you something new...a song just came into my head minutes ago. It's called Here With Me,” I told them. Cheers rang out. As I sang, I could see the tears in some of the soldiers' eyes. I finished it with thunderous applause.
At the autograph(亲笔签名)part afterward, one of the soldiers took out a picture of a high school student. “This is my girl. You know, I miss her so much,” he said. “That new song you sang meant so much to me. Those were the words I've always wanted to tell her.”
I realized that the song wasn't about myself and that it was, in fact, a gift for these men and women. I played it in every concert after that, always with the same unbelievable reaction.
During the long plane ride home I kept thinking about the soldiers I'd met. They risked their lives every day to defend our country, yet they were grateful for a simple concert. I decided to record the new song to thank our men and women in uniform(制服).

We've reached a strange—some would say unusual—point. While fighting world hunger continues to be the matter of vital importance according to a recent report from the World Health
Organization (WHO), more people now die from being overweight, or say, from being extremely fat, than from being underweight. It's the good life that's more likely to kill us these days.
Worse, nearly 18 million children under the age of five around the world are estimated to be overweight. what's going on
We really don't have many excuses for our weight problems. The dangers of the problem have been drilled into us by public-health campaigns since 2001 and the message is getting through—up to a point.
In the 1970s, Finland, for example, had the highest rate of heart disease in the world and being overweight was its main cause. Not any more. A public-health campaign has greatly reduced the number of heart disease deaths by 80 per cent over the past three decades.
Maybe that explains why the percentage of people in Finland taking diet pills doubled between 2001 and 2005,and doctors even offer surgery of removing fat inside and change the shape of the body. That has become a sort of fashion. No wonder it ranks as the world's most body-conscious country.
We know what we should be doing to lose weight-but actually doing it is another matter. By far the most popular excuse is not taking enough exercise. More than half of us admit we lack
willpower.
Others blame good food. They say: it's just too inviting and it makes them overeat. Still others lay the blame on the Americans, complaining that pounds have piled on thanks to eating too much American-style fast food.
Some also blame their parents—their genes. But unfortunately, the parents are wronged because they're normal in shape, or rather slim.
It's a similar story around the world, although people are relatively unlikely to have tried to lose weight. Parents are eager to see their kids shape up. Do as I say—not as I do.
4.What is the “strange”point mentioned in the first sentence
A.The good life is a greater risk than the bad life.
B.Starvation is taking more people's lives in the world.
C.WHO report shows people's unawareness of food safety.
D.Overweight issue remains unresolved despite WHO's efforts.
5.Why does the author think that people have no excuse for being overweight
A.A lot of effective diet pills are available.
B.Body image has nothing to do with good food.
C.They have been made fully aware of its dangers.
D.There are too many overweight people in the world.
6.The example of Finland is used to illustrate
A.the cause of heart disease
B.the fashion of body shaping
C.the effectiveness of a campaign
D.the history of a body-conscious country

When I was 12, all. I wanted was a signet (图章) ring. They were the “in” thing and it seemed every girl except me had one. On my 13th birthday, my Mum gave me a signet ring with my initials (姓名首字母) carved into it. I was in heaven.
What made it even more special was that it was about the only thing that wasn't being “replaced”. We'd been burnt out in fires that swept through our area earlier that year and had lost everything—so most of the “new”stuff(东西) we got was really just to replace what
we'd lost. But not my ring. My ring was new.
Then, only one month later, I lost it. I took it off before bed and it was missing in the morning.I was sad and searched everywhere for it.But it seemed to have disappeared. Eventually, I gave up and stopped looking for it. And two years later, we sold the house and moved away.
Years passed, and a couple of moves later, I was visiting my parents' when Mum told me that she had something for me. It wasn't my birthday, nor was it Easter or Christmas or any other gift-giving occasion. Mum noticed my questioning look. “You'll recognize this one,” she said, smiling.
Then she handed me a small ring box. I took it from her and opened it to find my beautiful signet right inside.
The family who had bought our house 13 years earlier had
recently decided to do some redecorations, which included replacing the carpets. When they pulled the carpet up in my old bedroom, they found the ring. As it had my initials carved into it, they realized who owned the ring. They'd had it professionally cleaned up by a jeweler
before sending it to my mother.
And it still fits me.

Which is more important, health or wealth Not until I witnessed my uncle's real life did I realize that health is of more importance.
Devoted to his business,my uncle,a successful businessman, worked from morning to night everyday with no spare time to relax himself. He often said,“I must earn much money so that I can get whatever l want.” As a consequence,he was seriously ill. Rich as he was, he could do nothing but lie on the hospital bed.
So I think health is more important than wealth. People can do nothing if they are always in poor health, let alone live happily. Whether we are rich or not, we cannot ignore the importance. of
health.

Where there is a will, there is a way
I first saw this sentence when I entered junior high school. The moment I came into the classroom, I saw the sentence on the blackboard.
I like the proverb because it tells a valuable philosophy of life. Achieving our goals is always not easy, but if we have a strong will, we are sure to realize them.
Once I was not very good at English. I didn't know enough English words and my grammar was also poor, which really made me upset. Fortunately, my English teacher noticed my bad situation and said to me, “Don't lose heart. Remember: where there is a will, there is a wav.” Suddenly I was reminded of the sentence on the blackboard!
From then on,I decided to work hard on my English and it finally paid off. My English improved a lot and, more importantly, I gained much confidence.
