Let me tell you something very important: Never have water near you when you have something electric not far away! Last month, my family experienced a terrible thing.
My brother Tom had just received a new train set. We decided to build a little “world” for it with mountains, streetlights and even a lake. We found a large board that was big enough to hold the train. We spent over a week building the things with paper and cardboard.
When we finished all the things, we showed everyone our new train set. It was very wonderful. Now, it was time to turn it on. I flipped the switch and the train began to move. Everyone was excited.
I turned to look at Tom, and he looked strange. He was shaking. “Tom!” I shouted. He didn’t move, looking straight ahead. Suddenly, my dad realized what was happening. He reached quickly for the switch and turned off the train.
The water had leaked(漏) from the bag under the board and arrived where Tom was standing. One of our wires had fallen under the table and was touching it. We sent Tom to the hospital. And luckily Tom was fine. He told us that when the electricity was on, he could not move at all.
We learned a lesson that day. Keep water away from electricity! It’s too dangerous.
26.How long did it take them to build the little “world”
A.A month B.Over a month. C.More than a week. D.Less than a week.
27.The underlined word “flipped” in Paragraph 3 most probably means “________”.

Cars make our lives more convenient. But they can also be a problem, especially fossil fuel (化石燃料) cars, which are a major cause of air pollution.
To improve the environment, many countries are developing electric vehicles (EVs, 电动车). Among them, China is taking a leading role and has created the world’s largest EV market, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Last year, over 40 percent of the 753,000 EVs sold worldwide were sold in China, more than twice as many as the number sold in the United States, according to the International Energy Agency.
Chinese drivers are already big fans of EVs. Chinese auto companies, including BYD and BAIC (北汽集团), rank among the top in the world in EV sales.
“Charging (充电) an electric car is cheaper than filling up a fossil fuel car with gas,” said Wu Hao, who bought an electric car from BAIC this year.
However, there are still some problems. It can be hard to find charging stations (充电桩) and the cars can’t go far before needing to be recharged.
Some of these problems are being solved. In 2014, China had 31,000 charging stations, according to Xinhua. Now China has the world’s largest EV charging network, with more than 167,000 charging stations in total, according to the Economic Daily.
Developing EVs is one of many efforts China has made to reduce pressure on its environment after the government promised to stop increases in carbon dioxide emissions (二氧化碳排放量) by 2030. “As China goes, so will the world’s auto industry,” the Wall Street Journal said.
31. What do we know about electric vehicles
