rank的用法
1.rank可以用作名词
rank用作名词的主要意思是“头衔”,主要指军阶、军衔、警衔、级别,也指地位(尤指较高的地位)、社会阶层,作此二解时可用作可数名词,也可用作不可数名词。
the rank of后接表示军阶、职位的名词时,该表示军阶、职位的名词前通常不用冠词。
the ranks则指“普通士兵”或“(团体或组织的)成员”。
rank也可表示“等级”,一般用单数形式。
rank还可指“行,列”,尤指警察和士兵的队列,也指一行人或车,用作可数名词,一般用复数形式ranks。
eg:There were some misgivings within the ranks of the media too.
媒体内部也存在一些疑虑。
They are people of all ranks and classes.他们来自各阶层各阶级。
2.rank可以用作动词
rank的基本意思是“分属某类”,即把人、物或事物按其价值、社会地位、优点等分类、排队。引申可表示“超过”“高于”“评价”等。
rank既可用作及物动词,也可用作不及物动词。用作及物动词时,接名词或代词作宾语,也可接以名词充当补足语的复合宾语。
