课标要求 The topic of this section is to "start an online community" The reading text is a narrative story about a teacher in an online community. It mainly introduces a story of an English teacher teacher named Jan Tchamani,who had to quit her job because of a serious illness at age 50.
教学目标 (核心素养) 1.identify and know about the words and phrases related to Jan's story and the online community and get to know the main idea of the text and form structural knowledge; 2. analyze the title to know about the main content and the author's attitudes; 3. apply the newly learned words and phrases to talk about their own online stories; 4.think critically about the use of the Internet and talk about how to use it properly and meaningfully.
教学重点 Learn the new words and phrases related to Jan's story and the online community and learn to use the strategy of reading headlines. Get to know the main idea of the text and form structural knowledge
教学难点 Apply what they have learned to talk about their own online stories and think critically about the proper use of the Internet.

Teaching Activities Step 1 Leading in ·Show some pictures of Alipay, WeChat Pay, and QR code to inspire students to talk about how the Internet has changed our lives and form a mind map. (Explain some new words to students through paraphrasing.) ·Invite some students to talk about their ideas and write more ideas down on the blackboard to enrich the mind map. Step 2 Predicting Ask students to read the headline of the text and finish Activity 1 on page 28.(Make predictions and guess the author’s attitude.) (Explain the common functions and features of headline: summarizing the text , being brief and simple, being eye-catching/interest-arousing, probably being in rhyme...) Call back the answers from the class. Step 3 Skimming for main ideas ·Ask students to read through the text quickly in groups to find main ideas of each paragraph and focus on the words and expressions (especially verbs,adjectives,or phrases) that can answer the two questions in Activity 1.Meanwhile,check their predictions.'Ask students to share their ideas with 1 or 2 words they have found.Add more if necessary. Step 4 Close-reading Ask students to read the text more carefully and finish Activity 2 on page 29.(Pay attention to the tense of the sentences.) Call back the answers from the class and check the answers. Step 5 Further thinking Ask students some in-depth questions based on their answers to Activity 2. Lead them to think further and have brief discussions in pairs. Step 6 Exploring the changes ·Ask students to read the text again and finish Activity 3 on page 29. ·Invite students to share their answers Step 7 Words studying ·Guide students to finish Activity 4 and offer background knowledge about the World Internet Conference(WIC). ·Ask some students to offer their answers. Step 8 Group discussing Group students to discuss two questions in Activity 5. Ask students to write down advantages and disadvantages of using the Internet and share their ideas. Step 9 Homework Write a short passage about how you make your own efforts to bridge the digital divide by teaching your grandparents or other elders to use the Internet.
