(1918- ), South Africa1. All his life, he fought for the black people and was in prison for many years. 2. He helped the black people to get the same rights as the white people.3. He was the first black president of South Africa.Abraham Lincoln, in 1860, became President of the United States. Then he worked still harder for the freedom of the slaves. But the Southern states wanted to set up a state of their own, where they could be free to keep black slaves. Lincoln said that it was not right for the South to break away from the Union. Fighting broke out between the North and the South. This was the American Civil War, which lasted four years.
