T: Let’s listen to a song.Play the video.(Play a song about prepositions.)
[设计意图] 通过歌曲导入,为本节课介词短语教学做铺垫,让学生提前感知目标语言,同时创设良好的课堂氛围。
StepⅡ.Work on 2a
1.Use the picture in 1a to present the new words of prepositions.
T: Look at the picture in 1a again.Where’s the police station
Ss: It’s on Bridge Street.
T: Yes.The police station is on Bridge Street.It’s between the restaurant and the hospital.
The teacher writes the new words “between…and” on the blackboard and teaches them.Then in the same way, the teacher teaches “across from, next to” and other propositions.
2.T: Please look at the pictures in 2a.How many pictures can you see
Ss: Six.
T: What are the people in the pictures probably talking about
Ss: They’re probably talking about directions.
T: Yes, there is a pay phone in each picture.It’s in different positions in each picture.Read the sentences together.
Read the sentences together twice.
T: Who can tell me the meanings of the sentences
Ask one student to translate them into Chinese.
T: Match the pictures with the sentences.Write the number in the box.
Check the answers.

1.The pay phone is across from the library.
◆pay v.& n.付费,付钱,支付。其宾语通常是人或钱。
pay(...)for...为……支付/付费(……)
eg: I paid 10 for the book.
我为这本书支付了10元钱。
拓展: pay phone付费电话
eg: Is there a pay phone in your shop 你们店里有付费电话吗?
◆ across from是固定短语,其后接表示地点的名词或代词,意为“在……对面”,相当于on the other side of。
eg:He lives in the house across from /on the other side of ours.
他住在我们对面的那栋房子里。
辨析across,over与through
across 表示从一定范围的一边到另一边,动作在物体表面进行
over 多指物体从上空通过
through 表示从中间穿过,动作在里面进行
eg: The car is going across the bridge. 汽车正从桥上经过。
The birds fly over the city. 鸟儿从城市上空飞过。
He walks through the park. 他步行穿过公园。
2.The pay phone is next to the library.
next to意为“紧靠着;紧挨着;贴近”。
The little boy is next to his mother.小男孩紧挨着他的母亲。
【辨析】 next to,near
从空间上讲near 只表示“在……附近”;而next to有“紧挨着”之意;next to比near靠得更近。
Peter sits next to Mike.彼得紧挨着迈克坐。
Peter sits near Tom.彼得坐在汤姆附近。
3. between...and....在……和……之间
between...and...为介词短语,连接两个并列成分,既可以表示地点的概念,也可以表示时间的概念。
eg:There is no parking here between 9 a.m.and 6 p.m. 上午9时至下午6时此处禁止停车。
He sits between Row 3 and Row 5. 他坐在第3排和第5排之间。
4. The pay phone is in front of the library.
in front of意为“在……前面”(在某范围之外)。
There is a car in front of the house.在房子前一辆小汽车。
【拓展】in the front of “在……前面”(在某范围之内)。
There is a table in the front of the classroom.在教室的前面有一张桌子。
[设计意图] 由1a的图片引导学生在头脑中将设施的位置与介词的意思形成统一,强化学生对方位介词短语的理解,然后再将2a中的句子所表达的意思说出来。
Step Ⅲ.Work on 2b-2c
1.Listening activities (2b)
T:Before listening,let’s read the words in the box.
Students read the words in the box.
T: Who can tell us the meanings of the words or phrases
Ask one student to translate them into Chinese.
T: Now I’ll play the conversation.Listen to the tape and fill in the blanks with the words in the box.If you can’t write down all the information, you can only write the first letters or the key words.
2.Play the tape twice. One for the students to listen and fill in the blanks and the other for them to check their work.
T: Where is the park
S1:The park is across from the bank.
T: Where is the hospital
S2:The hospital is on Bridge Street.
Check the answers like this.
Ask some pairs to check the answers.
Read the conversations after the tape.Pay attention to the pronunciation

3.Work in pairs(2c)
T: Look at the picture in 1a on page 43.Where is the restaurant
S1: It’s next to the police station on Bridge Street.
T: Where is the police station
S2:It’s between the restaurant and the hospital.
T: Ask and answer questions about the places in 1a on page 43.
Ask some pairs to practice the conversation.
4.T: Suppose you are new here.Now you are at our school gate.You want to post a letter, but you don’t know where the post office is.Ask for the directions.
Ask some pairs to act it out.
Then give more situations asking for the directions.
[设计意图] 听前读单词短语,理解词汇的含义,激活背景知识,然后再进行听力活动,有助于学生理解;结对练习对话目的是培养学生运用目标语言进行问路、指路的能力;创设情景编对话目的是训练学生运用目标语言解决实际问题的能力。
Step Ⅳ.Reading and role-playing(2d)
1.T: Tony is asking for the directions in town.Read the conversation and answer the following questions:
1). Is there a bank near here _______________________
2). Where’s the bank _______________________
3). Is Center Street far from here __________________
Get the students to answer the questions.
【Keys】 (1) Yes, there is. (2) It’s on Center Street, across from the park. (3) No, it isn’t..
2.T: Read the conversation again and try to find some useful expressions.Find out when to use them.
Ss: Excuse me./How can I help you /Oh, that’s great./No problem.
Talk about when to use them.
3.Read the conversation after the tape.Then ask some pairs to read the conversation.
4.T: Try to finish the conversation without looking at your books.
