课标要求 This section includes two parts,Opening page and Listening and Speaking. In the Opening Page part, a picture of a smart phone and "an Internet users' network" are presented,which shows the wide and close connection between people around the world through the Internet.The quote of this unit is "The Internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow." by Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft. Besides, this part also presents several learning goals to help students look ahead and leads into the topic of this unit through discussion.

Teaching Activities Step 1 Leading in ·Ask students to look at the picture on page 25 and answer the following two questions:
1)What can you see in the picture 2)Is it amazing that people from all around the world are closely connected to each other Why or why not Invite 2-3 students to share their ideas. The rest of the class can add their own opinions. Lead into the topic of the Internet and ask students to read the quotation “The Internet is becoming the town square for global village of tomorrow.” and try to translate it into Chinese. Have student share their understanding about the quotation with the class. Ask students what they know about Bill Gates. Introduce him to the class by adding more related information. Have students work in groups of four and discuss the questions on Page 25. Call back the answers from the class and ask them to share their understanding with the class. Step 2 Matching the activities with the pictures. Lead students to brainstorm any daily activities that can be connected with the Internet and make a class survey chart. Take notes on the blackboard. Ask students to look at the pictures in Activity 1 and describe what they can see in them. Check their understanding of the four online activities in the box to solve their understanding problems. Then finish Activity 1 on page 26. Call back the answers from the class and solve their problems. Step 3 Listening and completing the table. Present the new words in the listening material and explain them to students through paraphrasing. Ask students to look through the information table and be clear about the structure and the topic of the listening material. Play the recording and ask them to finish Activity 2 on page 26. Invite 3 students to summarize the listening material according to the information table. Check the answers at the same time. Step 4 Listening and completing the sentences Ask students to read the 3 sentences in Activity 3 and answer the question: What’s relationship between the word(s) in blue and the rest of the sentence Lead students to read the listening tip on page 27 and learn to listen for definitions. Play the recording again and ask students to finish Activity 3 on Page 26. Call back the answers from the class and check their answers. Step 5 Categorizing the definitions Ask students to finish Activity 4 on page 27. Invite 3 students to share their answers with the class. Pair students to give definitions to the words related to online activities and online habits on blackboard. Correct students’ mistakes and make comments. Step 6 Speaking Role-play the conversation in Activity 5 on page 27 with a student and add more related
questions to give the class a quick demonstration. ·Pair students to finish Activity 5. (Encourage students to ask more questions.) ·Invite 3-5 pairs to act out their conversations and make comments. Step 7 Pronunciation ·Lead students to review what content words and function words are. Then, introduce sentence stress to them. ·Read the example for students and ask them to pay attention to the stressed words. ·Ask students to finish Activity 2 in the Pronunciation part. ·Play the recording and ask students to check their answers.(If students have difficulty doing this, play a second time.)Make corrections if any. Step 8 Homework ·Practice the conversation in Activity 5 with three other students and learn about their online habits.
