Susan Cain was a shy girl. She always had a hard time talking with new people. But when she grew up, she became a reporter.  1.   But Susan thought that her shyness made her a better reporter. "Being shy makes me more believable — people feel more comfortable around me,” she said.
The Shyness Institute reports that almost half of all people say that they are shy. Some people are not shy when they are with their friends.  2.   For other people, shyness can be a mental (精神的) problem. They become so worried that they cannot speak in front of people.
But why are some people shy
Scientists once did a study on two-month-old babies. They found that of every five babies, one was very active 3.   And one of every five babies was always quiet. These babies might be shy when they grew up.
Family also affects (影响) shyness.  4.   Studies show that children who are shy usually have parents that have fewer friends and fewer family activities.
People who are outgoing are sometimes more successful. Shy people may feel that they have a disadvantage (不利因素). But shyness can be an advantage.  5.   They are good friends because they listen more than they talk. This can also make them successful.

Chen Zijiang is a paper-cutting expert whom I interviewed for my article on Chinese Art. Paper-cutting is something that he learned to do from an early age.
"It is a Chinese folk art with a long history," Mr Chen told me, "Paper cuts of animals have been found in tombs. 1.  " He added that by the Southern Song Dynasty, paper-cutting had become an important part of everyday life.
 2.  They are paper cuts for decoration, for religious purposes(宗教目的) and for design patterns.
Paper cuts for decoration are often seen on windows and gates 3.   They are also used on presents. A present for parents whose child has recently been born might show a paper cut of children, for example. Paper cuts which show the Chinese character for double happiness are often used to celebrate weddings.
Paper cuts for religious purposes are often found in temples  4.  
The third kind of paper cuts are those used to make patterns on clothing. They are also sometimes used to decorate jewellery boxes   5.

Wangfujing Street is a busy shopping street in Beijing.  1.  You can buy books, clothes, shoes and many other things on the street.
The street is about 700 years old. In the past, lords(贵族) lived there. Next to one of the lord's houses there was a well. 2.   Many people had no water to drink. However, the lord's well still had lots of water. This lord did not want to give the water to anyone. So he asked an old man to stand in front of the well and stop people taking water.  3.  He said, "My lord, if I don't give them water, they will die.
 4.  " Finally, the lord agreed with the old man.
  5.   "Wangfu" means the lord's house and "jing" means the well.

It’s normal to become angry.  1.   When you have too much homework, when your team loses a game, when a friend uses your bike without your permission (许可), you can get really angry.

The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says founding friendship is just like planting a tree.  1.  
First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend It is not because a person has money or good looks.  2.   For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend could listen to your complaints (抱怨) and do his or her best to help you.  3.   You should make each other happy and share your lives.
But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights.  4.   You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have a good talk. If he or she doesn't want to talk, you can write a letter.
There are three steps to be friends again:
Tell him or her how you are feeling.  5.   Remember that friendship is one of the most important things in your life.

Many people like to travel by plane, but I don't like it because the airport is usually far from the city.
