1. Why did Wei Fen find it difficult to learn English
Language points
find it difficult/hard to do sth. 发现做某事很困难
find it + adj. to do sth. 中的it是形式宾语, adj. 作宾补, to do sth. 是真正的宾语。
具有相同用法的动词还有 think, feel, consider 等。如：
I found it hard for me to improve spoken English. 我发现提高英语口语对于我来说很难。

Language points
(1) be afraid to do sth. “害怕去做某事”,相当于be afraid of doing sth.
(2) be afraid of sth. “害怕……”,后加名词、动名词或代词作宾语。
如：Tom is afraid of snakes. 汤姆害怕蛇。
Lucy is afraid of walking at night. 露西害怕走夜路。

Language points
called是过去分词，在句中作后置定语，相当于named 。如：
He is the boy called/ named Tom. 他就是那个叫汤姆的男孩。
【拓展】
(1) 作动词时，call sb.=telephone sb. =phone sb. ，意为“给某人打电话”；
(2)作名词时，give sb. a call =ring sb. up ，意为“给某人打电话”。
