Then he notices a sign: “Closed.” Oh, no! Danny is too early.
“I wonder when the mall will open?” Danny thinks. Then he sees another sign.
Danny looks at his watch. It’s 8:15. The mall won’t be open for almost two hours!
Danny sits down on the ground outside the door. He’s very tired, and very hungry. He hasn’t had any breakfast.
He waits and waits. His eyes slowly close.Suddenly, Danny hears somebody say something. He opens his eyes. A clerk is standing beside the open door. It’s ten o’clock.
“I’m sorry,” says Danny, “but I didn’t quite hear what you said.”
“I said, may I help you?” says the clerk.
“Oh, yes, you may,” says Danny. “I’m very hungry. If you gave me a donut, that would be a big help.”
“No,” laughs the clerk, “I mean, what would you like to buy?”
“I need five pieces of wood,” says Danny. “I also need a big bottle of glue.”
Danny pays for the wood and glue, and goes home. He’s ready to begin!I wonder when the mall will open.
