“You look lovely,” said Mom, as I climbed into the car. I sighed(叹气) and sat back. I couldn't hear her praise out and I felt my costume was heavy and ugly.
I worked part time as a balloon artist and singer in my local area. I always dreamed of having a bigger stage. Today I was missing a chance to realize my dream. The planner had called my mom this morning while I was getting ready for a six year old's birthday party. Donna, my best friend who's also a balloon artist, had already asked me to fill in for her because she was sick. I had said yes, but that was before I knew it would mean missing the chance to be in Young Talent Time.
We arrived at the address Donna had given me. Mom held my hand, “Your time will come, Ally. Don't stop believing.” I looked at her face, and I wanted to believe her words. “Thanks, Mom,” I said before I said goodbye to her.
The house was very big but old, like pictures our art teacher had shown us of buildings in Venice. The small garden in the backyard was full of grass, with leaves on the grass. I rang the doorbell and took a deep breath. Time to shine.
Tina was very happy as I made another animal out of a balloon that was quite a surprise for her. Her six year old guests also loved my show, and the small group of parents who had stayed with their children too. “Sing, Ally, sing!” They shouted. This was the part of the party I loved the most.
I sang from the place deep inside me where only music makes me happy. I forgot all about Young Talent Time and shone in the moment.
One of the parents came to me with a business card in her hand, as I was putting all my things into my bag. The card said “Melody Records”, which is a famous music company. I believed again.

(2021·河北石家庄裕华模拟)We all mess up. We are humans, and it's not always easy to get along with everyone all the time. Sometimes we hurt people's feelings. So we apologize(道歉).
Apologies are one of the tools we use to build good friendships and relationships. Sometimes you say “I'm sorry”, because you probably feel bad that something you did or said hurt another person. Saying you're sorry is more than just words. You're also saying that you respect the other person and you care about his or her feelings. After apologizing, you might feel a little better. The other person probably will, too. When you apologize in a caring way, you can feel good because you are trying to make things right again.
If someone is upset because of something you did, you will want to set things right. Here are some cases when an apology can make a difference:
*If you hurt or tease(取笑) someone, even if you did not mean it.
*If you lose or break something that belongs to someone else.
*If you did something you knew was wrong like telling a lie or breaking a rule on purpose.
*If you didn't do something you were supposed to do like keeping a promise.
*When someone apologizes to you, you may welcome it and be ready to forgive whatever happened and move on. Or you might not feel like being friendly again right away.
It's polite to accept and acknowledge(承认) an apology. However, it doesn't mean you have to be friends. It is all up to you!
