【Teaching Procedures】
Step 1: Revision
1. Quick response: Teacher speaks Chinese meanings, students say out the English words and expressions they leant in last lesson.
2. Translation: Translate the important sentence patterns sentence by sentence.
3. Give students 1 minute to review the conversations they made yesterday, then invite some pairs to show their conversations.
【设计思路】：通过快速反应及翻译重点句型来让学生回顾上节课所学，并通过对话练习和表演巩固上节课所学句型。
Step 2: Lead-in
Teacher shows Marco Polo’s picture and make students say something about him (Encourage them to try to use English as much as possible).
Step3: Aims presentation
Show the aims to students and make them know about the aims.
Step4: Learn the new words
1. Show pictures to learn new words. At the same time make a sentence with each word.
2. Read the words to partners and show in the class

Step5: Listening
Listen to the tape, and fill in the blanks.

Step6: Reading
Translate the passage and try to solve the following questions:

Step6： Language points
Make students analyze every important points of the passage, especially the Irregular Verbs. Teachers add more details.

Group Contest: Let a group sum up the usage of Simple Past Tense. Then, pick up two groups to write the Irregular Verbs on the blackboard as much as they can. Award the first place, and make others read these words after them.
【设计思路】：老师用马可波罗、丝绸之路的图片引出今天的课题报告主题，让学生们浅谈其情况。通过小组朗读、翻译和全班朗读、翻译来加深学生对文章的了解，最后由学生分析重要语言知识点，老师做相应的补充。再利用小组竞赛的形式让学生展示自己所学到的不规则变化的动词，既集合了小组的思维，让学生学到更多不规则变化的动词，又考验了他们的团队协作能力。
Step 7： Practice (about 8 min)
1. Teacher gives students a similar Chinese passage which about a famous person, and let students translate in groups.
2. Let students translate it sentence by sentence, then try to say out the whole passage.
【设计思路】：老师给学生一篇和本文句型结构一致，介绍名人的汉语文章，让学生小组活动，用英语翻译。让学生一句句展示，最后形成篇章，大家做出这这篇口头作文。
Step 8: Summary
1. Let some students sum up what they have learnt today. They are expected to sum up the key words, phrases and sentence patterns. And they should sum up how to make a report.
Step9: Homework:
Write down their prepared introduction and finish the exercises after the passage.
【设计思路】：让学生来总结本节课的内容，有助于检验学生的听课效果，锻炼他们的归纳总结能力。让学生仿照课文写出自己准备的名人事迹，有助于学生更好地理解文章，也有利于培养写作能力。
