并列复合句的定义:由并列连词and, but, or等把两个或两个以上平等而又互相独立的分句(简单句)连接而成的句子。并列句中的分句均读降调。
e.g. Jane has kept the book for three days and she must return it tomorrow.
The boy fell off the bike, but he didn’t hurt.
并列复合句的基本结构是: ______________________________
e.g. I help him and he helps me.
3. 使用不同的并列连词可以表示出并列句中各分句之间的不同关系。
(1) 并列/顺承关系。常用的表示并列关系的连词有and, nor等。
e.g. They are watching TV, and the others are listening to the radio.
He does not do it, nor does he try. 他没有做,也没有尝试一下。
(2) 选择关系。常用的表示选择关系的连词有or, either…or...等。
e.g. The children can go with us, or they can stay at home.
Either you are wrong or I am. 不是你错了,就是我错了。
另外注意,or还有“否则”的意思,表示不按照前句这样做会导致的结果
e.g. We must run fast or we will be late.
You must put on your coat, or you’ll have a bad cold in such a cold day.
(3) 转折关系。常用的转折连词有but, yet等。
e.g. She was tired, but she did not stop working.
It is very good, yet it can be better. 这很好,但还能精益求精。
(4) 因果关系。常用的表示因果关系的连词有for, so, because等。
e.g. The days were short, for it was December now. 白天短了,因为现在是12月了。
The girl did her work carefully, so she never made any mistakes.
4. 使用并列复合句要注意的几种情况。
(1) 并列复合句有时可不用连词,而用分号隔开(前后句之间的关系须相当紧密)。
e.g. We fished all day; we did not catch a single fish.
(2) 并列连词后的简单句如果与其前的简单句有相同的部分,则相同的部分常可省略。
e.g. Snoopy lives in his own world and (Snoopy) finds real life hard to understand.

When the teacher asks a question in class, Wang Xiaobin never raises his hand and this situation is very common at middle school. This 15-year-old boy always waits for other classmates or the teacher to give the answer. “What if my answer is wrong ” Wang asked.
