Two years ago, I went to Taiwan, along with my family. Taiwan, China’s biggest island, lies in southeastern China. It’s separated from the Chinese mainland by the Taiwan Strait.
On the trip, we visited the beautiful Sun Moon Lake. ① Standing in a cable car(缆车), I looked down at the scenery below. It looked as if it had been made by a great master. ② The clear water and beautiful forests made me feel as if I were in heaven. ③ Many famous works were on display there. When I was walking along the hall, the unpleasant history of our country passed through my mind. ④ As the Chinese saying goes, “Falling behind will suffer beating.” I realized the great importance of self-improvement.
Taiwan is rich in nature. There are not only lovely animals, but also delicious fruits, such as pineapples, wax apples(莲雾) and many more. I ate much fruit every day during my stay there.
As for the local people, they were very friendly. Take my personal experience as a real example: I bought a T-shirt as a gift for my father without telling him. But the size wasn’t suitable. I didn’t know what to do. I called the mall hopelessly. To my surprise, the salesman listened to me patiently and told me that he could help me to change the size and send it back to our hotel as long as I could return the other one to him. His warm voice is still in my mind.
Anyone who visits this island for the first time will fall in love with it right away. If you aren’t sure about where to take a vacation, Taiwan should be at the top of your list.

A. A Visit to Taiwan B. Wonderful Trips

From January 1st, 2020, the Netherlands started to use a new logo to market the country internationally.
The logo combines the letters “NL” with the shape of a tulip, the Netherlands’ national flower. Before that, the symbol of a tulip and the word “Holland” had been used for 25 years. The new logo is expected to show the world the whole country and attract people to explore areas that are less well-known.
The name Holland only refers to two of the country’s 12 provinces, North Holland and South Holland. North Holland is home to the capital city Amsterdam, which is also the most populated city. The second largest city Rotterdam and the third one the Hague are located in South Holland. These three largest cities are among the most popular tourist destinations, making some parts of them not pleasant for locals to live in, with the main problems of overcrowding and litter.
Although considered a small country, the Netherlands hasmany places that are worth a visit.
Breda is a heaven for shoppers and foodies. It has one of the best city centers of the Netherlands, with plenty of cafes, restaurants and excellent shopping malls.
Eindhoven is famous for its creativity in design and technology. You can either visit the city center for some new electronic products or wander through Eindhoven’s technological past and future at the Strijp-S.
Groningen is known for its student population, which makes it a lively city. You can feel the city’s energy when walking across the centuries-old streets.
Leiden is a picturesque city and the birthplace of the best-known painter Rembrandt. It’s great to walk through the historic city center, enjoy the city from the canals and visit one of the many museums the city offers.
Whether you want to be immersed in history, prefer touring along beautiful canals, or are looking for a modern city, these places could be on your list.

A. correct the mistakes in the old symbol

D. develop the tourist market in some less famous places
( )39. The capital city Amsterdam probably _______.
A. attracts too many tourists
B. looks clean with little rubbish
C. is a nice place for local people to live in

A. Its national flower tulip is firstly seen on the new logo.
B. It has a pretty large area of land with twelve provinces.
C. The three largest cities lie in North Holland and South Holland.

( )41. Which of the following advice is suitable for each visitor
A. Mike, a fan of computers and technology, can choose Breda for some creative ideas.

D. Jessica, who posts photos of fashion and food online, will find Eindhoven excellent.

Last month I went to Peru with my mom and dad. My mom’s company sent her there on business. It was great! We flew to Cusco. One weekend, we took a train to visit Machu Picchu.
What is Machu Picchu Well, it is the remains of an ancient Inca city. It is on the top of a mountain that overlooks the Urubamba River. It is more than 7,000 feet above the sea level!
How did we get to such a high place We could have hiked the Inca Trail(印加古道) for four days. Instead, we decided to ride the train. It took only a few hours. Our guide was a man from the local area. Not only did he provide information about the area, but he also worked as our interpreter. Some people of Peru spoke Quechua, which of course we didn’t understand.
As we rode the train, our guide pointed out unknown plants that grew in the rainforest. The plants were so thick that I could hardly imagine trying to get through it back in 1911. That was when Hiram Bingham, the man who searched for the city, started his expedition(探险). We also learned about the animals. There are some dangerous snakes that live there. One bite can kill a person. It must have been quite a journey that Bingham took!
His trip was well worth it, in my opinion. Machu Picchu was so big and beautiful! The stones have gone through the test of time. They have been there since the 1400s. There were terraces(梯田) cut into the sides of the mountain, and green was everywhere. To top it all off, we were in the clouds!
We saw where the people lived, where they worshiped, and where they farmed. The place is fascinating!

Although it is not the highest mountain in the Alps, the Matterhorn may be the most famous one. It is well-known for its appearance and its four faces make it look like a pyramid. The mountain lies between Switzerland and Italy. It is more than 4,000 meters high. Many people have tried to climb it although it’s very difficult. In 1865, an English man and his six partners made the first successful climb to the top of the mountain. However, it was sad because four of the seven men died on the way back. One of the bodies was never found.

Our School Trip
I think a school trip is an opportunity for students to experience life and increase knowledge. At the same time, it can also improve students’ team spirit.
Last Wednesday, we went on a school trip to Yixing. Yixing is a modern and tidy city, where there are many places of interest. It was a fine warm day. In the morning, we climbed the hill in the Bamboo Park. On the way, we met an Australian. He was kind and patient. We had fun practising speaking English. In the afternoon, we rowed boats along the underground river in the Shanjuan Cave.
It was a great day. I hope our school will have more school trips like this. We will be happy to have more places to visit.
