Teaching ideas of section A(1a-1c) in Unit6 of Grade 7
Part 1 The analysis of material :
This part is Unit 6Section A (1a, 1b,1c).It’s the beginning of the Present Progressive. It is
around the topic “What are you doing ”.In the textbook, there are many pictures. It can make
the students interested in English . As we all know that interest is the best teacher for the students.
First, Knowledge goals
1. Key vocabulary : do homework, watch TV, eat dinner, read, talk on the phone
and so on.
2. Target language: What are you doing I’m sleeping.
What’s he/she doing He/She is reading.
What are they doing They are eating dinner.
Second, the ability goals:
Train students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Train students’ communicative competence.
Third, the emotional goal:
The ability to cooperate and deal with the difficulties
Fourth, key points:
The Present Progressive Tense, make a conversation with it. Because the Present
Progressive Tense is the importance of the course in middle school.
Fifth, difficult points:
The forms of the Present Progressive Tense: “be doing” and ask them not to forget “be”. In my teaching life, I know that the students often lose the verb“be”.
Part 2 The analysis of students
The Ss have learned English for some years. They understand some words and simple sentences. They are curious, active, fond of games, and various activities. They enjoy learning through cooperation in a relaxing atmosphere.
Part 3 Teaching methods:
In this lesson, my teaching methods include communicative teaching method, and task-based teaching method, and groupwork can help the students learn how to get on well with others.
Part 4 Teaching Aids: A tape recorder, A computer, some cards and a big screen
Part 5 Teaching process
There are seven steps in my teaching process.
Step 1 Warming-up and leading-in (2mins)
1. Introduce myself to the students.
Make free talks with the students, like Nice to meet you ! May I know your name
Do you like English and so on.
(Make a communication with the students will make them like me )
Step 2 Presentation and practice (12 mins)
1. Show some cards and Revise some verbs, and teach the key words and phrases. After teaching, play a memory game to check what they learnt.
(Revise the phrases to make the teaching smooth. It’s the preparation for this lesson. )
2. Present the new language
First, Pretend to sleep and ask “What am I doing now ” Then answer “I am sleeping.” by myself. At the same time write the sentences on the blackboard and ask the students to repeat Then, ask a student to do an action, ask“What are you doing now ”,She/He answers “I’m…”
Next, ask the whole class“What’s he/she doing ” and “What are they doing ” by the slides.
3. Show some pictures on the screen.
(This activity practices the key sentences)
Step 3. Guessing game(3 mins)
Show the pictures and guess “what is she/he doing ” and “What are they doing ”
(This is the climax of the lesson )
(The activities can make them more interested in English and make the lesson more happy )
Step 4: Groupwork(1c) (7 mins)
Four students a group, make a conversation. Act and show us.
(Improve the students’ speaking skills.)
Step 5:Show some new phrases and finish 1a,1b. (6 mins)
1. Ask some students to read the phrases and match the words with the activities in 1a.
2. Play the tape and ask the students to write numbers in 1b.
(Improve the students’ listening skills.)
Step 6:Grammar and exercise (8 mins)
1. Sum up the grammar and do some exercise.
2. look at the pictures and write 2 sentences of each picture. (Present Progressive Tense and simple present tense)
(Improve the students’ writing skills.)
Step7: Homework (2 mins)
1.Make sentences about family members and tell friends what are they doing
2.Prepare for next period.
