T: Work in groups of four. Choose one group of pictures and make up a story. One of the group members will write down your story. Pay attention to the tense and spelling. Try to make your story interesting and creative. You can use these words and phrases in your story.

(2) Take turns to say one or two sentences;
(3) One of the group members write down what all the members say to make up a complete story;
(4) Be amazing and interesting!
3. Show your amazing story to us.

Step 2 Presentation
1. What is the simple past tense
表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态:
(1) It was rainy yesterday.
(2) I played computer games yesterday evening.
表示过去经常或反复发生的动作:
(3) My father often went to work by bus last year.
(4) When I was a child, I often listened to music.
In a word, we use the simple past tense to talk about things in the past.
2. How to form the simple past tense
We form the simple past tense with the past forms of the verbs. There are regular verbs and irregular verbs. We add -ed to regular verbs but we form the simple past tense of irregular verbs differently. We do not add -ed.
(1) Rules of regular verbs and do some exercises.
(2) Some small rules of irregular verbs and have a competition.
Read the irregular verbs after the teacher and read them fluently.
Read the irregular verbs and the past forms as fast you can, and the teacher will record the time. Let’s see who can read fastest without any mistakes.
(3) Millie wants to practise using the simple past tense. Help her write the simple past tense of the verbs on page 62.
(4) Let’s play a game. Take turns to read the sentence with the simple past tense as fast as possible.
3. When to use the simple past tense
(1) We need some key words to help us use the simple past tense correctly.
(2) Complete the sentences. Don’t forget to circle the key words.

1. Put sentences in the correct order.
T: So you know the story in the park, right Millie wrote some sentences about what happened, but they are not in the correct order. Read these sentences carefully and then help Millie put the sentences in the correct order. Write the numbers 1-7 in the boxes.
Read the sentences in the correct order, and try to get the main idea of the story by filling in the blanks. Pay special attention to the simple past tense of the verbs.
2. Correct Millie’s sentences.
T: Millie is telling her friend Wendy on the phone about what happened in the park, but Wendy cannot hear her clearly. Write a T if the sentence is true or an F if it is false. Check the answers with your partner.
3. Help Andy answer Henry’s questions.
T: Henry, Andy’s friend, is asking Andy about the “ghost”. Help Andy answer his questions.
Work in pairs. One is Henry and the other is Andy. Try to act the dialogue out.
