【答案】1.B2.C3.D4.G5.F
1.根据上文“While pomegranate juice had always been a favorite of mine, for a long time, I couldn’t say the same for the actual fruit. (虽然石榴汁一直是我的最爱,但很长一段时间以来,我始终不能对真正的水果说同样的话)”以及后文“How could anyone possibly take pleasure in eating that (怎么会有人喜欢吃这个呢?)”可知,上文提到作者虽然喜欢喝石榴汁,但是对石榴籽本身没有好感,B项“I had thought it’s a bunch of soft and juicy little seeds. (我原以为它是一堆柔软多汁的小种子)”解释了原因,作者本以为它是一堆柔软多汁的小种子,但实际上不是,上下文语意连贯。故选B。
2.根据上文“A handful of small pomegranate trees grow just outside the gate of my husband's family home in rural Zhejiang.(在浙江农村,我丈夫的家门外就长着几棵小石榴树)”以及后文“So one autumn, my mother-in-law gave me and my husband a bag filled with pomegranates she had picked herself.(所以在一个秋天,我岳母给了我和我丈夫一个袋子,里面装满了她自己摘的石榴)”可知,上文提到作者丈夫在浙江农村的家门口种了许多石榴树,后文提到秋天收获石榴,可知每年石榴树会结出果实。
3.根据上文“At first, I rejected the seemingly burdensome pile of fruit on our dinner table.(起初,我拒绝了餐桌上那堆看似沉重的水果)”和下文“He continued to bite on pomegranate and offer me a taste of the seeds, and eventually curiosity won.(他继续咬石榴,给我尝了尝石榴籽,最后好奇心占了上风)”可知,作者开始拒绝石榴,但在丈夫诱惑下,好奇心占了上风,尝了石榴籽。
5.根据后文“At that time in my life, moving around left me too much stress, which usually left me with the discomfort of a nervous stomach. But among the many health benefits of pomegranate is that it can naturally improve digestion. Regular consumption of the fruit had comforted my gut (肠道) so much. If you’ve yet to be addicted to the delights of the pomegranate, it’s not too late to try.(在我生活的那个时候,四处走动给我带来了太多的压力,这通常会让我感到紧张的胃不舒服。但石榴的诸多健康益处之一是它可以自然地促进消化。经常吃这种水果使我的肠胃得到了很大的安慰。如果你还没有沉迷于石榴的乐趣,现在试一试还为时不晚)”可知,后文提到作者通过吃石榴,治好了自己胃不舒服的毛病,即石榴具有治病的作用。故F选项“我所经历的这种水果的治愈特性增加了它的魅力”符合语境,故选F。
2. 参观美术馆
When I visited my brother Selva, who lives in Australia, he took me to a must-visit place – the National Art Gallery. ____1____
The National Art Gallery was located at the heart of the city. There was no entrance charge and the architecture was both impressive and unique. There were many types of paintings on display based on the painters’ country of origin, which were categorized into Asian, Aboriginal (native Australian painters) and Caucasian I estimated at least a thousand paintings on display. The painters ranged from the most experienced to the amateur ones. ____2____ The quality and the imagination of the painters despite being young, were breathtaking.
___3___ There is a sad history that surrounds the natives of Australia. When the white settlers came to Australia in the 19th century, it was inhabited by natives. Most of the children of the aboriginals were taken away from their parents and brought up by white parents. Some of the paintings expressed this theme, which moved me to tears.
Since it was a public holiday, the gallery was crowded with students, parents and their children. ____4____ The price of paintings almost made me faint. They ranged from AUS $1,500 to a few million Australian dollars! It was such a huge display of paintings that I was sure the government must have paid big sums of money to purchase these works of art.
____5____ Now I left Australia but the memory of that day still haunts (萦绕) me. It is really an attraction worth visiting.
A.Selva knew I was an amateur painter.
B.So you couldn’t experience a more exciting trip!

A year ago, I had one of the most important interviews of my life.___1___To this question I could say what I thought the members of the interview wanted to hear. I’m so good at multitasking that I would be able to shoulder the various responsibilities. That might be true, yet it seemed to be unreal. The more honest answer was that I knew it would be difficult, but I wanted to try anyway.___2___
This tough situation led me to hesitate during the interview. It also recalled my past experience of being interviewed when an interviewer asked me to give an example of a time when I had been caring. The answer that came to mind was that I volunteered at a nursing home and felt honored to sit with the patients and listen to their stories. But I didn’t think that was dramatic enough to impress the interviewers. So, instead I told them about when one of the residents threw up, I cleaned it up.___3___Obviously, that wasn’t caring and it suggested that my best quality was skillful at using mop (拖把).
Back to my most recent interview and the question about how to shoulder the multiple responsibilities of the role.___4___I had learned the significance of being true to myself. So I answered simply, “With difficulty.” To my relief, the review members nodded knowingly and smiled. This exam can test my honesty and I can come up with appropriate answers.
I’ve come to realize that interviews don’t have “right" or “wrong" answers. I still see them as exams, but they’re not testing my ability to copy somebody else’s answers. Actually, the exam is about something I am well familiar with: me.___5___
A.I hesitated but not for long.
B.I wasn’t sure which answer to give.
C.Never give the interviewers wrong answers.
D.It seemed the interviewers were quite satisfied.
E.I immediately felt embarrassed after saying that.
F.It’s not about “right” answers but about being yourself.
G.At the end, I was asked how to balance the different parts of the role.
【答案】1.G2.B3.E4.A5.F
1.由下文“To this question I could say what I thought the members of the interview wanted to hear”(针对这个问题我可以说出我认为面试人员想听的话),由此可知,空格处会提到“我”被问了一个问题,下文又说“I’m so good at multitasking that I would be able to shoulder the various responsibilities”(我很擅长同时处理多项任务,能够承担各种责任),G选项“At the end, I was asked how to balance the different parts of the role”中的“the different parts of the role”和“shoulder the various responsibilities”相互呼应,因此G选项切合题意。故选G项。
2.空格后说“This tough situation led me to hesitate during the interviews”(这种艰难的局面让我在面试中犹豫不决),由此可知,作者不确定给什么答案,B选项“I wasn’t sure which answer to give”(我不确定该给出哪个答案)中的“wasn’t sure”和“hesitate”相一致,因此B选项切合题意。故选B项。
3.空格前说“So, instead I told them about when one of the residents threw up, I cleaned it up”(我告诉他们,有个住院医生吐了,我就清理了),空格后说“Obviously, that wasn’t caring and it suggested that my best quality was skillful at using mop”(很明显这不是关心,这表明我最好的品质是熟练地使用拖把),因此E选项“I immediately felt embarrassed after saying that.”(回答后我立刻感到很尴尬)位于的空格处起着承上启下的作用,因此E选项切合题意。故选E项。
4.根据空格后的“I had learned the significance of being true to myself. So I answered simply, With difficulty”(我明白了做真实的自己的意义。所以我简单地回答:“很难”),及第二段中的“This tough situation led me to hesitate during the interview”(这种艰难的局面让我在面试中犹豫不决),可知,作者在回答这个问题的时候虽然犹豫了但是最后还是回答了,因此A选项“I hesitated but not for long”(我犹豫了,但没多久)切合题意。故选A项。
5.空格前说“Actually, the exam is about something I am well familiar with me”(其实,考试是关于我很熟悉的东西:我),F选项“It’s not about ‘right’ answers but about being yourself”(重要的不是“正确”的答案,而是做你自己)中的“being yourself”与上文的“me”相一致,因此F选项切合题意。

1.根据上文“My husband and I made an agreement to help each other stay off social media platforms as much as possible. We left our accounts up instead of deleting them, but consciously stopped using them.(我和丈夫达成了一项协议,要帮助彼此尽可能远离社交媒体平台。我们没有删除自己的账户,而是有意识地停止使用它们)”以及后文“Now, I’m glad to report that they have worked.(现在,我很高兴地告诉大家,它们已经奏效了)”可知,上文提到作者和丈夫帮助彼此尽可能远离社交媒体平台,有意识地停止使用它们,可见本句承接上文,总结他们在生活中做了一些调整,C选项中a few adjustments对应后文中they。故C选项“我们在日常生活中做了一些调整”符合语境,故选C。
2.根据上文“Tired of being the last to hear of things, we downloaded a few news-specific apps that provide timely information.(厌倦了成为最后一个听到消息的人,我们下载了一些提供及时信息的新闻应用程序)”以及后文“Instead of relying on articles shared by my friends, I now have access to a steady stream of headlines that span far broader than my pre-specified interests.(现在,我不再依赖朋友们分享的文章,而是能够源源不断地看到新闻标题,这些标题的范围远远超出了我之前设定的兴趣范围)”可知,本句承接上文,说明他们下载新闻应用程序的结果:拓宽了所关注的新闻的范围,故D选项“这也拓宽了我所关注的新闻的范围”符合语境,故选D。
3.根据后文“The effort taken to sit down and write is far challenging, but when I do take the time to journal, my reflections go far deeper.(坐下来写作的努力是非常具有挑战性的,但当我花时间写日记时,我的反思会深入得多)”可知,作者开始花时间写日记了,B选项中diary对应后文中journal。
4.根据上文“I still log in occasionally.(我仍然偶尔登录)”以及后文“Based on the screen time tracked by my phone, I used to spend an average of over 24 hours a week on various social media platforms. That is down to just 20 minutes every month now, freeing up a large amount of time for sleep, hobbies and offline interactions.(根据我手机追踪的屏幕时间,我过去平均每周花在各种社交媒体平台上的时间超过24小时。 现在每个月只有20分钟的时间,可以腾出大量时间用于睡眠、爱好和线下互动)”可知,作者现在每个月只有20分钟时间在社交平台上,说明社交媒体如今在作者的生活中不再那么重要了,故F选项“但是现在社交媒体在我生活中扮演的角色已经不那么重要了”符合语境,故选F。
5.根据后文“I might know less about my acquaintances now, but have more time to keep directly in touch with my closest friends. Walking home last week, I was greeted by a dramatic purple-pink sunset. I would have immediately reached for my phone a year ago. Now, it was enough to simply watch it darken into the night.(现在我可能对我的熟人了解较少,但有更多的时间与我最亲密的朋友保持直接联系。上周,当我走在回家的路上时,迎接我的是壮观的紫红色日落。一年前我就会马上拿起我的手机。现在,只要看着夜幕降临就足够了)”可知,后文的内容表明作者对自己减少了使用社交媒体的改变很满意,故A选项“总的来说,我很高兴做出了改变”符合语境,故选A。
6. 对待令人印象深刻的人时的一些错误的想法
Think about what kind of person you're attracted to. Physical appearance likely plays a strong part, of course, as do kindness, humor and other qualities. If you're like me, you're attracted to impressive people. ___1___ They have qualities I admire but lack myself. Because I assume people with certain qualities would be most interested in those who share them. I don't even consider the possibility of developing a relationship with them.
___2___ If you're attracted to athletic people, for example, but don't regard yourself as fit or active, you may not think you stand a chance with the people you see working out at the gym. However, there are several mistakes with this way of thinking.
You shouldn't assume people are looking for someone who shares qualities they possess themselves. ___3___ They may really like to meet somebody from a completely different walk of life, other than the field of music.
The qualities you admire in other people may not be the same ones they identify(认同)in themselves. This applies to my example of impressive people. ___4___ While you may find their success, drive, and enthusiasm impressive, maybe they're looking for someone who knows how to step back and enjoy life.
And you are probably underselling your own positive qualities. You probably have qualities you may not find attractive but that some people will admire in you.
So it isn't worthwhile to worry about falling short of what you think other people want. All you can do is be yourself, show your best qualities, and see who responds to them. If there is one quality that never attracts anybody, it's doubt. ___5___
A.I've been struggling with these same things myself.
B.Maybe it's a writer, musician, doctor, lawyer, or soldier.
C.They may not view “impressive” in the same way you do.
D.This problem goes far beyond my specific example, though.
E.A musician isn't necessarily interested only in other musicians.
F.It prevents you from finding out whether your attraction is shared.
G.You can never know which things they want to share with their partners.
【答案】1.B2.D3.E4.C5.F
1.空格前说“If you're like me, you're attracted to impressive people.(如果你和我一样,你会被令人印象深刻的人所吸引。)”,空格处应说到令人印象深刻的人具体是什么人,B选项“Maybe it's a writer, musician, doctor, lawyer, or soldier.(也许是作家、音乐家、医生、律师或士兵。)”
2.空格前说“Because I assume people with certain qualities would be most interested in those who share them. I don't even consider the possibility of developing a relationship with them.(因为我认为有某些特质的人会对拥有相同特质的人最感兴趣。我甚至没有考虑过和他们发展关系的可能性。) ”,空格后说“If you're attracted to athletic people, for example, but don't regard yourself as fit or active, you may not think you stand a chance with the people you see working out at the gym.(举个例子,如果你被运动健将所吸引,但却认为自己并不健康或活跃,你可能会认为自己不可能和那些在健身房锻炼的人在一起。 )”,D选项“This problem goes far beyond my specific example, though.(不过,这个问题远远超出了我的具体例子。)”
3.空格前说“You shouldn't assume people are looking for someone who shares qualities they possess themselves.(你不应该假设人们在寻找一个和他们有相同品质的人。)”,空格后说“ They may really like to meet somebody from a completely different walk of life, other than the field of music.(他们可能真的喜欢遇见来自完全不同的生活领域的人,除了音乐领域。)”,说明人可能不止对自己领域的人感兴趣,E选项“A musician isn't necessarily interested only in other musicians.(音乐家不一定只对其他音乐家感兴趣。) ”说明了人可能对其他领域的人感兴趣,因此E选项承上启下,符合语境,故选E。
4.空格前说“The qualities you admire in other people may not be the same ones they identify(认同)in themselves.(你在别人身上所钦佩的品质,也许和他们自己所认为的不一样。)”,说明了你觉得令人印象深刻的人可能对“令人印象深刻”的看法和你不一样,C选项 “They may not view “impressive” in the same way you do.(他们对“令人印象深刻”的看法可能和你不一样。)”
5.空格前说“If there is one quality that never attracts anybody, it's doubt.(如果有一种品质永远无法吸引任何人,那就是怀疑。)”,空格处应具体说“怀疑”的不好之处,F选项“It prevents you from finding out whether your attraction is shared.(它阻止你发现你们的吸引力是否是共享的。)”
The vast majority of parents expect their children to grow up to be healthy, happy, and productive members of society. ____1____ If we don’t give parenting everything we’ve got, our kids will wind up unemployed, living in our basements, and there will be no one to blame but ourselves. That’s what I like to call the “perfect parent myth”.
The standards of perfection for parents these days are extremely high. Perfect parenting expectations begin with a drug free natural birth. Once our young are born we must breastfeed each baby for years. If we can’t breasted, we must at least feed on demand. ____2____ Let’s also not forget to organize our children’s days so they are engaged in educational pursuits in case they fall behind the curve (弯道). We must be involved in every aspect of our children’s schools. There is no free time for the perfect parent. ____3____
These standards are unreasonable. They’re also crazy. Parents can’t be perfect. Why Because we’re human and so are our children. ____4____ They are predictable and when they are unruly we can shut them down. Parenting is nothing like that.
____5____ But, by the parent being less than perfect, the child will need to adapt and develop skills to overcome little disappointments. There is flexibility and room for real-life mistakes and limitations to our parenting abilities.
A.We must make our own baby food.
B.They are pushing themselves too far.
C.Robots would be much easier to parent.
D.There is only unlimited devotion to our children.
E.A good enough parent meets the needs of their children.
F.Parents have no enough time to live up to these high standards.
G.To meet those goals, parents are told that they must spare no effort.
【答案】1.G2.A3.D4.F5.E
1.根据前一句“The vast majority of parents expect their children to grow up to be healthy, happy, and productive members of society.(绝大多数父母希望他们的孩子成长为健康、快乐和对社会有贡献的成员)”并结合空后一句“If we don’t give parenting everything we’ve got, our kids will wind up unemployed, living in our basements, and there will be no one to blame but ourselves.(如果我们不尽一切努力养育孩子,我们的孩子最终会失业,住在我们的地下室里,那就只能怪我们自己了)”可知,父母对孩子有很多期望,如果孩子最后没有成功就只能怪父母,所以推测空处讲述父母为了让孩子成功应该奉献一切,G项“为了达到这些目标,父母们被告知必须不遗余力。”承上启下,G项中的these goals呼应前一句中“to be healthy, happy, and productive members of society”,故选G项。
2.结合空前两句“Once our young are born we must breastfeed each baby for years. If we can’t breasted, we must at least feed on demand.(一旦我们的孩子出生,我们必须多年母乳喂养每个孩子。如果我们不能哺乳,我们至少得根据需要喂养)”可知,此处是讲述孩子喂养方面对父母的高标准,A项“我们必须自己做婴儿食品。”符合语境。故选A项。
4.空前“These standards are unreasonable. They’re also crazy. Parents can’t be perfect. Why Because we’re human and so are our children.(这些标准是不合理的。它们也很疯狂。父母不可能十全十美。为什么?因为我们是人,孩子也是人)”解释上文为什么父母并不是完美的,分析选项,F项“父母没有足够的时间来达到这些高标准。”承接上文,继续说明父母不完美的原因。故选F项。
5.根据空后一句“But, by the parent being less than perfect, the child will need to adapt and develop skills to overcome little disappointments.(但是,如果父母不够完美,孩子将需要适应和发展技能,以克服小失望)”可知,空处与下文是转折关系,应是描述完美父母的情况,E项“一个好的父亲或母亲能够满足孩子的需要。”

5.根据空前提到出现网上欺凌对人伤害不小,以及空后“She believes that kids of her generation can make things better by finding their passions, and using those passions to inspire changes, as she has.(她认为她这一代的孩子能通过找到热情来让事情朝更好的方向发展,并且他们可以用这些热情来做出一些改变)”可知,前文说明网上欺凌的伤害,后文又说明事情会朝好的方向发展,前后为转折关系,A项“但是她却看到了前方明亮的未来。”

Since Williams started this activity in 2017, she’s given away more than 63,000 books, mostly to students. Williams had this idea after she noticed that the students she taught would ask her to keep the books they were reading together. And they would ask her to read more books to them. So, one summer, she made a goal to give away 300 books to the school where she has worked. ____2____
But even after she met her goal, she didn’t stop here. Williams started collecting donations and buying books out of her own pocket. Every year, she gives a book to each student at her local primary school. ____3____ Standing across the street are 16 tiny libraries that Williams has kept. She also leaves books on picnic tables, but she doesn’t usually leave a note.
____4____ Williams said her community has united to help her achieve her goal. She often returns home with boxes of donated books. Williams said that of the 63,000 books she’s given away, 99% first sat on her living room floor.

During my first year teaching middle school students, I found myself in a bit of a dilemma. When the bell rang, I knew that my class should be orderly and on task. ____1____ I had an activity on the board for the students to complete. However, no one did it. Instead, they just kept chatting and laughing.
I desperately needed some classroom management strategies(策略) that actually worked. ____2____ She gave me the following idea: When the bell rings, write down the names of everyone who is talking on the board, and tell them if they speak out of turn again they will receive a discipline essay.
I tried it. Wow, it worked! ____3____ Firstly, watch carefully for the very first person that talks and be sure to give him a warning in the form of his name on the board. Meanwhile, say something like, "Taylor, this is just a warning to you. You are not in trouble at this point, but you will be if you continue talking."
____4____ There would still be days when the bell rang and half the class were still talking, but instead of allowing my stress level to rise, I would calmly start writing names. It normally only took three or four names for the class to notice. Then they would quickly quiet down.
If you teach high school, or are just not crazy about this method, look for ways to adjust it. For example, you could give a student a warning by putting a Post-it on their desk. ____5____ But if you’ve had trouble keeping order in your classroom, I do highly recommend that you try it.
