Arrest (逮捕) Report Sheet
NAME OF SUSPECT (嫌疑犯): Berry Brown
REASONS FOR ARREST:
Use of bad language in a public place.
Wasting a police officer's time.
Doing harm to property (财产) and causing danger to the public.
There was something I didn't like about him.
DETAILED REPORT OF THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE ARREST
The suspect came into South Street Police Station at 5:31 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15th, claiming (声称) to have lost his car. Of course, this story did not satisfy a police officer like myself, and I started to question the suspect at once. About 45 minutes later, he changed his story, claiming that the car had been stolen. Something about this story also sounded unlikely and I refused to accept it. The suspect kept telling his story. Luckily, I took a useful and enjoyable training course. So I used the active questioning skills from the course to get the real truth out of him. When he finally broke down under my questioning, he admitted (承认) that he had parked his car in no-parking place, and then blown it up (爆炸) . I have not yet worked out why he did this. My opinion is that he is a mentally ill terrorist who sees parking rules as a symbol of everything he hates most in modem society.
Signed

Damin is a fisherman but he catches fish by his 12 cormorants(鱼鹰).
Cormorants are large black birds. They are good at catching fish because they can swim well underwater. Their large feet are used to push them quickly through the water. They can dive down 25 metres, and stay underwater for up to two minutes.
Damin’s fishing trips often begin in the late afternoon. He sets off on his bamboo raft(竹筏) with his birds. When he reaches the right place, he ties a piece of grass around the neck of each bird, so that it cannot swallow the fish. Then he pushes the birds into the water to catch the fish. At night a light is hung from the front of the raft. This makes Damin see better and also attracts the fish. The cormorants swim down and catch the fish, and bring them back to the raft. Damin takes the fish from the birds’ mouths and throws into a big basket. Later some of the fish are sold, and the rest are divided between Damin’s family and the cormorants.
Cormorant fishing is a traditional Chinese skill with about over 1,000 years’ history. Damin enjoys his work, and he is teaching his grandson everything he knows. CIMON 2 is a floating (漂浮的) computer assistant. It was sent to the International Space Station (ISS)on December 5th, 2019. It was designed to work there for three years to help astronauts.
Actually, the International Space Station is a science lab in space. Now there are six people there. Usually astronauts stay in the ISS for five or six months. Can you imagine how boring it is to live in a tight space with just five other people for six months
So CIMON was created with two jobs in mind. One is helping astronauts with tasks. The other is trying to be "someone" astronauts can talk to. CIMON stands for Crew Interactive Mobile (互动移动) Companion. It is a robot with a face which was created by the European airplane company, Airbus. It has no arms or legs, but it can move where it needs to go with motors inside. Helping astronauts is easy for CIMON-it can see, hear, understand, and speak. Its "mouth" is a loudspeaker that can be used to talk or play music. The brains behind CIMON were provided by IBM, a computer company famous for training computers to understand human speech. CIMON can understand not just what people say, but what they mean. If astronauts ask it for instructions (说明) or information, CIMON can answer the astronauts, or use its screen to show pictures or documents, if needed. In addition, CIMON has several cameras, which can take pictures and videos to help astronauts keep records of experiments or other important actions.
The more difficult part of CIMON's job is being a companion for the astronauts. The first CIMON could understand what people were saying and mastered more than 1000 sentences, but it was limited. In one video, taken with German astronaut Alexander Gerst, CIMON seemed to become confused (困惑的) as Mr. Gerst spoke with another astronaut. "Don't be so mean. please," CIMON said.
CIMON 2 has been improved so that it can recognize emotions and find out how people are feeling. The goal for CIMON is to be a calm, trusted friend that astronauts can talk to when they don't want to talk with others. This could be especially important if tension (紧张气氛) in a group of astronauts causes them to stop thinking clearly.
56. According to the passage, CIMON was created ______.
A. for Crew Interactive Mobile Companion
B. for the European airplane company, Airbus
C. to do a lot of research of IBM
D. to make friends with astronauts
57. CIMON is very intelligent, and it can do all the following things EXCEPT_______.
A. moving here and there B. training computers to understand people
C. taking pictures and videos D. understanding what people are saying
58. The underlined word "companion" in the Paragraph 4 means a friend who ______.
A. lives with astronauts B. has the similar tastes, interests
C. runs a company D. is responsible for astronauts
pared with the first CIMON, CIMON 2 has the advantage of ________.
A. becoming confused with others' talk B. keeping calm all the time

Have you ever been on social media and seen your favorite celebrity (名人) talking about a product These endorsements (代言) might be totally chosen carefully in advance and are actually seen as an important part of the marketing process. The question is how do social media influencers ‘influence’ what you buy
Human desire for social positions and making friends, came together with our need to belong to a group, make us be ‘socially panies often use it to have a similar lifestyle to a celebrity we admire to sell or introduce a product to the public. So, what do these endorsements actually do
They can be used to build brand awareness (品牌意识). A social media influencer should have a strong understanding of the platform they operate on, and therefore can create attractive content that not only follows the brand image but drives their followers’ interests in a product they might never have seen before.
Then, influencers can improve a company or product’s relationship with their customer base. According to In Moment’s 2018 US Retail CX Trends Report on customer loyalty, 77% of buyers have been brand fans for more than ten years. This is also true of 60% of millennials (千禧一代). A popular celebrity can talk or blog about a product, which can create a quick and lasting relationship with the consumer.
Lastly, influencers can improve customer buying habits with seemingly ‘unbiased opinions’. We are more likely to respond to ‘peer recommendation’ than traditional ads, meaning the fact we see an influencer as a ‘friend’ can make us less likely to have doubt about what we are seeing.
So, the next time you see a celebrity talking about a product, you might want to consider that this could be a carefully crafted marketing strategy designed to meet your core needs. If you find yourself reading a product you’ve seen on social media very carefully, you may well have been influenced.

I’m Jess Collins and I’m from North Queensland in Australia, and I’ve made a dress out of Calypso mango seeds.
I’m 18 and grew up on a mango farm. I’m frustrated that so much edible (可食用的) fruit goes to waste. We just have to dump (倾倒) over 5,000 kilos of mangoes each year because they’re not up to supermarket standards.
To my surprise, a school design project gave me the idea to turn wasted mangoes into fashion.
I cut all the flesh (果肉) off and then I took it over to Dad’s pressure cleaner, and then I would get the rest of it so no insects would try and eat the fruit because there was nothing left on it. And then we dried them out, cut them in half and then I sewed (缝纫) them on.
So, I used around 1,400 of them – so there was just a couple! I took over the kitchen and pretty much the whole living room as well with just mango seeds and material. It was just everywhere.
I did it for between three and four months. I was actually called ‘crazy’, but I think they were very surprised that I did end up getting it done. I had a picture in my head, and I guess I just put on that dress and ran with it. But once it was all together and finished and I saw it out in the mango farm, I was very happy with my work.
I wore the dress to my high school graduation dinner proudly.
I would love to tell the consumer and also the supermarkets that there is perfectly fine fruit and we’re just throwing it out because it doesn’t meet, you know, the standards of the market. And that it’s edible, it’s still completely edible and that it can be bought and eaten and enjoyed by everyone.

d. cut the seeds e. cut the flesh off
A. a,e,d,b,c B. a,e,b,d,c C. e,a,b,d,c D. e,a,c,d,b

C. The writer used 1400 seeds to make the dress.
D. The writer’s classmates may learn more about the waste of fruit.

What do you think of when you hear the phrase “space meat” It sounds very strange. But in fact, it could be normal in the future because the human will eat it in their daily life.
A Russian astronaut recently grew meat in the International Space Station. Yes, that’s right. He grew it using cells(细胞) provided by an Israeli company called Aleph Farms. But he was not the first person to create this kind of lab meat. Dutch scientist Mark Post grew the first lab meat in 2013.
Now we can get the real meat from cows, pigs and other animals. So is it necessary to grow meat in a lab Of course yes. For one thing, lab meat is healthier. “We can be in good control of what the meat is made up of, for example, fat.” Mark Post said, “The lab meat is also free of the chemicals that are used on farms, such as pesticides(农药) and growth hormones(激素).”
Are there other ways to take the place of regular meat Mcdonald’s is trying to do so with the P.L.T. The first P.L.T. burgers are already being sold in Canada. The “meat” in the P L.T. is made by a company from the US. The company uses pea, rice and beans to produce pies that look and taste like real meat.

Studying different languages increases our understanding of how humans communicate. Language is also an important part of culture. Words that describe a cultural practice might not have meaning in another language.
But today almost 80 percent of the people in the world speak only one percent of their languages. Every 14 days a language dies. By 2100, half of the more than 7,000 languages spoken on Earth today could disappear.
Central South America has some of the world’s most endangered languages. The Kallawaya people speak a secret language with details of thousands of medicinal plants. It has been spoken since the time of the Inca(印加). Today, fewer than 100 people speak it.
In Central and Eastern Siberia, almost all of the native languages are endangered. And many Siberan languages now have only a few elderly speakers.
Oklahoma has the highest number of native languages in the USA. One of these, Yuchi, may be related(相关) to any other language in the world. However, in 2010, only five elderly members of the Yuchi tribe could speak their native language.
Why do languages die Imagine you are not allowed to speak your native language. Everywhere you go, you have to speak a different language. Everything on TV is in this language. The only place you can speak and hear your own language is at home with your family. Your native language isn’t useful anymore. When your children are born, you just speak the new language to them. They never learn your native language. ▲
Luckily, people realized the importance of these languages. They are trying to save these languages. Native people around the world are using modern technology to help keep their languages and cultures alive.
