M: What can I do for you, madam
W: I'd like to have a look at books
on science. I want to buy some.

(Text 2)
M: I can't decide whether to buy a new car or try to
find a second-hand one.
W: If you buy a new car, you'll probably save money
in the long run.
(Text 3)
M: Did you develop all your own film
W: Only the black and white. I had a photo shop do
my color pictures.

(Text 4)
M: Are you going to New York by car or by train
W: Oh, I had planned to drive a car there, but now
I've changed my mind.
M: What
W: I think flying will be more comfortable.
(Text 5)
W: I'd like to buy these two chairs. How much are
they
M: They are 45 dollars each or 80 dollars for the pair.

(Text 6)
W: Do you know that John's health took a turn for the worse
M: But he used to be as strong as a horse.
W: You will never know when your health will fail all of a
sudden.
M: It's one of the misfortunes in life, isn't it
W: It sure is.
M: So health is more valuable than anything else. No matter
how much money we have, you can not buy good health
with it.
W: I quite agree with you, and similarly, honors can never
equal good health either.
M: To conclude, we should try our best to keep us as healthy
as possible.

(Text 7)
W: What can I do for you
M: It's about the new clerks you need for the offices. I'm wondering
how many people you want to employ.
W: That depends on what you would like.
M: I think I'd need about 30 hours a week, including some
Saturdays. What do you think
W: That's what I was thinking too. We don't want someone who has
never worked in the office before.
M: Yes. It might be helpful if one could speak a second language.
W: That might prevent too many people asking for the jobs. What
about pay, David
M: What do you think would be the best to offer
W: I think it depends on experience. However, the lowest we could
offer is about $ 9,000 per year.

W: Why, Tom. You look pale. What's wrong with you
M: Nothing serious. I haven't had much exercise lately, I'm very busy.
What do you do in your spare time
W: I often go to ball games.
M: What's your favorite sport
W: My favorite summer sport is swimming, and my favorite winter sport is
skating. I also like watching track events and gymnastics. You have a
favorite sport, don't you
M: My favorite sport is tennis, but I can't play it well.
W: I like tennis, too. There is a tennis match at our school tomorrow
morning. Do you want to go
M: I'm sorry to say I can't. I want to watch TV. It's a live broadcast of the
opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games. It will be very exciting.
W: All right. By the way, you should pay more attention to your health. You
must have more exercise in your free time.
M: Thank you very much. I will.

M: How time flies! The summer holidays are coming next week.
W: Yes, do you have any plan
M: Certainly. I want to go to Egypt. What about you
W: I'm afraid I can't go anywhere. I failed my English written exam. You
know my parents are so strict with me.
M: Bad luck!
W: I say, is Egypt an Asian country Is it far
M: Yes, quite far. But it's not in Asia, it's an African country.
W: Oh, yes. I've heard of not only the Pyramids but also the Aswan Dam.
Do you want to see them
M: Of course. I'll go there by boat on the Nile.
W: That'll be wonderful and interesting. How will you go to Egypt
M: By air---by flight No. CA 808! My sister works on it! And then I'll be
treated as a king!
W: Don't be so proud. I'll be off now. I wish you a good trip.
M: Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you.

(Text 10)
Not many dogs can become movie stars. However, thousands of highly trained dogs in the world today are working in a very honorable profession, they are Seeing Eye dogs guiding the blind. The first Seeing Eye dog was a German shepherd named Buddy. In Switzerland, Buddy’s owner, Dorothy, was training dogs for police work and saving people from dangers. Then in 1927, she wrote an article for a newspaper about dogs being trained in Germany to help blind people. Morris, a young blind American, heard about the article and wrote to Dorothy to ask if there was such a dog to help him. That letter led Morris to spend five weeks in Switzerland learning to be guided by Buddy. Buddy was with Morris when he returned to the United States.
Newspaper reporters were waiting for them in New York. They couldn't believe that a dog could safely guide a blind man through a modern city. Buddy surprised them by leading her master across the streets through the heavy traffic.
