China is a big country with a long history, and it also has many taboos (禁忌). Spring Festival is the most important festival in China, but there are a lot of taboos during this festival.
You can't say "death", because it is not polite. You'd better wear red and don't wear white. "Red" stands for happiness. The married women should stay at their mother-in-law's until the 2nd day of the lunar New Year. Normally, the whole family will gather together during the festival and talk with each other happily. The children will get a red envelope with money in it.
At dinner, the young can't start eating until the oldest or the most respected begin to eat.
We can't send umbrellas to a newly married couple, because it means separation. We can't cut a pear for the same reason.
