Things changed when ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) I was 14. My grandma gave me a book as a birthday gift. It was all about making candles. As a young girl, I loved it so much that I spent all my free time making candles of all shapes and sizes. I made hundreds of them.www-2-1-cnjy-com
One day, my mothe ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )r was ill, so I had to go to the market by myself. I decided to take some candles with me and see if I could sell them. To my surprise, they were sold out in 20 minutes! I did it the next week and next.21*cnjy*com

The Earth Is Getting Greener
NASA has got some go ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )od news for us. The world is a greener place today than it was 20 years ago. How does this happen Well, it appears China and India are leading the change.
NASA researchers ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) compared satellite data(卫星数据) from the mid-1990s to today. They found that the whole world’s green leaf area had increased by 5% since the early 2000s. That’s about the same area as the whole Amazon rain forest. At first, the researchers were unsure what caused the large increase in greening around the planet. After further study, they found that greening was mostly in China and India.
China and India ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) have the world’s biggest population. In the past, they were considered to have harmed the environment seriously. But the two countries have made the largest greening of the planet exist in the past twenty years.
The tree-plan ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ting programmes in both countries have made huge contributions to the whole world’s greening trend(趋势). China has carried out the programmes to protect forests and make them larger. These programmes were developed to keep soil in place to reduce air pollution and so on. India continues to break world records in tree planting. It was reported that 800,000 Indians planted 50 million trees in one day in 2016.
The greening trend has ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) also caused by intensive(集中的) agriculture in both countries. Both countries have greatly increased food pollution in order to feed their large populations.
However, the research ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ers warned that we should not be happy with the situation. Some of the natural green leaf areas in the earth are getting smaller at the same time. The gain in global greenness does not offset(抵消) the losses.

Students go there to show how much they know about the science of music, biology, chemistry and others. My best event is forestry(林学).www.21-cn-jy.com
The big day had ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )come at last! First, I went to watch the tower building competition. That's when students build small towers and put heavy things on top of it. They hope they can hold them up. One of my schoolmates was putting things on her tower. She was nervous, and in the end it was too heavy for her tower to hold it—it broke! I felt bad for her.
After lunch, I ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )helped some teammates with their events. One was geography, and the other was history. I don't know about those things, so I just watched my teammates do most of the work.
At last, it was time ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )for my favorite event—forestry. The rules were easy. We had to look at more than 40 different kinds of leaves and find out which plants they were from. We also had to answer most of the questions about the uses of each leaf. I knew almost all of the leaves and could answer most of the questions. I had spent more than a month studying on the Internet to get ready. In the end, it was time for the awards(颁奖). I was nervous, because the forestry awards were last. We won second place in the whole state! A nice man gave me a medal and smiled at me.

Cloud seeding(云催化) ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )is a kind of technology that can control rain. It is done by spreading chemicals(化学物质)like dry ice or silver iodide(碘化银)inside of clouds, either by rocket or airline. This changes the amount of water inside the cloud, which helps to control the amount of rain, the time when it rains and even where it rains.
This technology ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )has helped to solve droughts(干旱).It has also played a key role during important events. For example, China used cloud seeding in Beijing just before the 2018 Olympic Games in order to stop rain from falling during the event.
However, scien ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )tists are still debating how to use this technology. On one hand, it is believed that it might have side effects(副作用).For example, silver iodide may be bad for the environment. On the other hand, no two clouds are the same so every new experiment introduces new conditions.
In addition to cont ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )rolling rain, scientists have also tried to find ways to weaken storms and hurricanes(飓风). Scientists at the US National Hurricane e Centre Headquarters think it might be possible to control hurricanes by using lasers(激光).Others believe that burning petroleum(石油)in a hurricane’s path could slow the storms down.
