a Divide the students into groups of four.Ask the students to imagine that they are going to spend their weekend at the beach with their parents and three frlends.

the students to make a list of things they need for their
outing.Students talk about the things they need by using
the following conversation:
S1:What do we need?
s2: We need some(food or drinks).
s3: Yes./No.We don’t need any(food or drinks).
S4 What else do we need?
c Students work in groups to complete their 1ists.
d Divide the board into a few columns.Invite a reDresentative
from each group to write their list on the board.

Pre—task preparation
1 Draw an empty refrigerator on the board.Ask the students
to imagine that they have a class refrigerator.Write:fridge
and refrigerator on the board.Tell the students thatt fridge is
the informal form of refrixerator.Review vocabulary items of
food and drinks by inviting individual students to think of
the things that they would put into the class refrigerator.
2 Ask:What do we need?to elicit:We need some water./We need
some cakes.The class listen carefully and decide whether
they need those things.Ask the students to raise their hands
if they do not agree with their classmates’suggestions.
Encourage the more able students to say:We don’t need(food
or drinks).For example,students do not need any vegetables
in their class refrigerator.They are not supposed to do any
cooking in the classroom.

Divide the students into pairs.Distribute a copy of
Photocopiable page 59 to each pair of students.ask au the

d.ialogue·They are to make a list of the things they need before
they go shopping.

1 Write:Supermarket on the board.Ask:Do you usually,go to the
su[,ermarket with your mum?Do you like going to the
supermarket?
2 Ask the students to think of the things that they can buy in
a supermarket.Divide the students into groups.Each group
makes a list of food and drinks.
3 Draw a simple floor plan of a supermarket on the board.
Introduce the different sections of a supermarket by
providing the food items that people can find there.For
example,point to the fruit section,and then write apples
and oranges.Draw pictures of foOd to help the 1ess able
students.Encourage the more able students to think of
some other food iterns that they can find in a particular
section.Review and introduce vocabulary iterns about food
and drinks in this way.The following vocabulary items are
first introduced in Student's Book 6A:peaches,steakk.crabs,
squid,onions,tomatoes,lettuce,7-UP,Lemonade and fruit iuice.
