While-task procedure
1 Ask the students to read the road safety rules in Look and
read silently.
2 Play the recording:Look and read.Students listen and
repeat.
3 Invite some students to demonstrate the correct way to
cross a road.Ask the class to say:There's the redZgreen man.
before they demonstrate.
4 Play the recording:Sing a song.Students listen and repeat.
5 Divide the students into groups.Ask the students to practise
singing and acting the song.
6 Groups take turns to sing and act the song in front of the
class.
7 Ask the students to vote for the best group.

Pre-task preparation
1 Draw a simple street map to show the area around the
school on the board.Mark the shops and buildings close to
the school on the map.Invite the more able students to
locate the traffic lights and/or zebra crossings on the map.
Ask the less able students to colour the pavements using
coloured chalk.
2 Focus students’attention on road safety.Draw traffic lights
on the board,showing both the red man and the green
man.Say:There's the red∥green man.Can you cross the road?to
elicit:Yes./No.

5 Ask the students to read the questions in Ask and answer.
Have them work in pairs to find out why each picture is
right or wrong.
6 Invite individual students to report back.
7 Students stay in pairs to put the right pictures in the correct
order.Invite pairs of students to show the correct procedure
to CROSS a road.Ask one student to talk about what his/her
partner is doing while the other is demonstrating.
While-task procedure
1 Distribute a copy of Photocopiable pages 49 and 50 to each
student.Students are required to cut out the pictures on
Photocopiable page 50 and stick them on Photocopiable page
49 to make a poster.Remind them to put the pictures in the
correct order.
2 Students write captions for each picture in groups.
Encourage the students to share their work.
3 Ask the students to revise or polish their work.

Book 6A again.Groups of students take turns to sing and act
the song in front of the class.Invite individual students to
show the proper way to cross the road.
2 Ask the students to read Look,read and think silently.
3 Play the recording:Look,read and think.Students listen
and repeat.
4 Students work in pairs to put a tick to the pictures which are
correct,and a cross to the pictures which are wrong.

3 Students work in pairs to match the signs and the meanings
in Match.Invite two students each time to talk about the

1 Students work in groups to put their signs into two
categories.One category for the signs which give
instructions and the other category for the signs which
express prohibitions.
2 Ask each group to stick their signs on a sketch_book.
Remind them to stick the signs of the same category
together.
3 Encourage students to draw extra road signs which they can
think of in their sketch-book.
4 Students write the meaning below each sign.Ask them to
write in pencils first.Encourage the students to work
together in groups and edit the captions if necessary.
5 Encourage the students to share their work with other

Pre—task preparation
1 Divide students into groups.Ask them to put their pictures
of road signs on the group’s desk.Play a game with the
students.Ask:Which sign means ...?(This language
structure is introduced in Student's Books 5A .Students should
have learnt it in Grade 5.)The whole group work together
to find all pictures which show the correct sign.Each group
gets a point for a correct sign.The group with the highest
score wins the game.
2 Ask the students to look at the signs in Look and learn.
Then ask them to look at Pictures 1 and 3 in Match.

While—task procedure
1 Divide the students into groups.Give them back the big
book they made in the previous lesson.Students go over the
signs in their big book and discuss what they can/cannot
do.
2 Students take turns to write what they can/cannot do under
each sign.
3 The whole group work together and see if they need to edit
their work.
4 Encourage the students to share their work with the other
groups.

Distribute a copy of Photocopiable page 122 to each student。
Students are required to listen to what Miss Liang said
carefully.Then they put ticks on the record book.Finally,they
write down Paul,Susan and David's addresses and telephone
numbers.

classroom as roads.Invite the less able students to stand up
and hold the enlarged signs you make using Photocopiable—
page 51.Encourage the more able students to act as the
pedestrians and drivers.Ask them to say what they
can/cannot do when they come across a certain road sign.
