比较项 含义及用法 举例
the number of 意为“……的数量”,后接可数名词复数形式。the number of 作主语时,谓语动词用第三人称单数形式 The number of the students in our class is forty. 我们班的学生数量是40。
a number of 意为“许多”,后接可数名词复数形式。a number of 作主语时,谓语动词用复数形式。number前可用large, small, great等修饰 A large number of boys are playing basketball now. 许多男孩正在打篮球。

if引导的条件状语从句
if意为“如果”,用来引导条件状语从句。当if引导的从句位于句首时,后面要用逗号与主句隔开。当主句的时态是一般将来时,if引导的条件状语从句则要用一般现在时,即“主将从现”。如:
