China's teen diving sensation (轰动性人物) Quan Hongchan's family and neighbours have been disturbed by tourists hoping to get social media “likes”, local media say. Ever since the 14-year-old won the Olympic gold after delivering three perfect-10 dives, fans have rushed to her Maihe village home to take videos and photos. Some persistent fans are even climbing trees for a better view.
Quan has received massive support online after she said she took up diving to pay her sick mother's bills. Her story touched many people when she told reporters that she dedicated her Olympic win to her mother, who has been admitted to hospital many times after getting into a traffic accident years ago. “I want to make enough money to support her," Quan had said in Tokyo.
On China's Twitter-like platform Weibo, the hashtag(标签)“how to view Quan Hongchan's home becoming an internet photo hotspot” was viewed more than 25 million times. There was criticism over the actions of these influencers, who reportedly staked out the rural village in Guangdong province to livestream videos even after midnight. Others knocked on the door to take selfies with her family members, while some tried to steal jackfruit from her home as gifts, local media said. “If people are going to her house just to get followers, that's unacceptable. Her mother is sick. She shouldn't be disturbed,” one Weibo comment read.
The village has now been closed to visitors as the large crowds didn't follow Covid control measures, reports say. Due to her years of training, the farmer's daughter said she had never been to a zoo or amusement park. Her comments made a safari and amusement park in Guangzhou decide to announce free annual membership cards to all Chinese diving team members. When you talk to doctors in the hospitals, it often happens that most of them are very serious and speak in a range of terms that may be difficult to understand. But Zhang Wenhong, the leader of the Shanghai team of experts in the treatment of novel coronavirus pneumonia, is one of the exceptions. He caught the public's attention for his recent frank and funny speech.
Zhang's words first went viral (走红)on the Internet after he said in late January that he had sent doctors and nurses who are members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to frontline hospitals to treat coronavirus cases. "When becoming CPC members, we vowed (发 誓)that we would always put people's interests first in the face of difficulties," Zhang said. “This is the moment we live up to the vow. All CPC members must rush to the frontline. No bargaining." Such a hardcore declaration of his attitude won widespread applause among Internet users. “A person's morals are witnessed most in a critical situation. Nothing could win more recognition from the people than the down-to-earth behavior of the CPC members, said Yang Haiyan, a 32-year-old Shanghai resident.
One month later, when Zhang advised local residents to reduce the risk of spreading the virus by staying at home, he said in Shanghai dialect: "If you don't stop seeing friends, you will see them again in the ICU.”
Though chased by the media, Zhang described himself as a medical worker who must speak out now, but will return to keeping a low profile after the outbreak ends. "I spoke because of the fear among the public, owing to limited knowledge of the contagion (传染病)," said Zhang on Feb 26. “However, once the curtain of this coronavirus incident falls, it may be hard to find me. I’ll just hide myself in a corner, studying complicated patient cases and doing some reading silently.

Summertime is often filled with outdoor parties and food trucks, meaning you’re spending more time standing up and eating. But if you want to actually enjoy your meal, researchers say you’re better off finding a seat.
A new study published in the Journal of Consumer Research finds posture impacts taste perception (感知), with food tasting better when you’re sitting down. Dpayan Biswas, professor of marketing at the University of South Florida, found that holding a standing posture for even a few minutes leads to physical stress, muting taste perception. The force of gravity pushes blood to the lower parts of the body, causing the heart to work harder to pump blood back up to the top of the body, accelerating heart rate. When people experience discomfort, foods that normally taste good do not appear as pleasant to the tongue. Biswas confirmed his assumption by having 350 participants rate the taste of a pita chip. Those who were standing gave it a less favorable rating than those who were sitting in a chair.
Researchers then provided participants classic bite sized cakes baked at a local restaurant that were tested and widely considered pleasant tasting. Those who were sitting down rated them to be most delicious. However, when the baker changed the recipe and made the taste unpleasant by adding an extra cup of salt, the results were opposite. Participants standing up didn’t notice the cakes tasting saltier to that extent, and actually rated them to have a relatively more favorable taste perception than those who sampled them while sitting down.
“This finding suggests that parents might be able to make unpleasant-tasting, healthy foods seem more delicious to reluctant (不情愿的) children by having them eat standing up (vs. sitting down). Also it might be beneficial to maintain a standing posture when consuming medical products that have unpleasant tastes.”
In addition, the team tested posture’s impact on temperature perception. Participants were provided cups of hot coffee. Those standing up reported it not being as intense as those who were sitting down. However, they drank less than those sitting, suggesting physical stress suppresses appetite. Eating while standing can also help with long-term weight loss goals. Specifically, eating while standing (vs. sitting) leads to lower amount of consumption.
32. What’s the main idea of the text
A. Summer is the best season to enjoy tasty food.
B. Your posture influence your food perception.
C. You had better stand up when eating food.
D. Sitting down helps you enjoy your food.
33. Which of the following best explains “muting” underlined in paragraph 2
A. encouraging B. approving C. discouraging D. disapproving
34. According to the passage, how many experiments were conducted by Dipayan Biswas and his team
A. 1. B. 2. C. 3. D. 4.
35. A standing position while eating is especially beneficial to those except
A. a girl who wants to keep slim
B. a couple who are enjoying their dinner
C. a child who is unwilling to take bitter pills
D. a mum whose children refuse to eat tasteless food

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A light knock on the door brought me from my kitchen. Because we had just moved into the neighbourhood, I couldn’t imagine who it would be. Opening the door, an old man stood there, who was dressed in dirty clothing and wearing dirty rubber boots. His hand hung a plastic bag.
“Can I help you ” I asked.
“Would you like to buy some fresh garden vegetables ” His blue eyes were hopeful.
“Are they from your garden ” I looked inside his plastic bag and saw some carrots with soil.
“Yes,” his voice was soft. “And I can get some apples from a tree in my yard. Would you like some of those, too ”
My heart softened, and I wondered if he was badly in need of money. With a sigh, I said, “Please step inside and I’ll get my money.”
The next day, he knocked at our door again. This time, my little four-year-old daughter got there first. “Oh, hello. Would you like to come in for some tea ” Without a second thought, the old man stepped inside and held out a broken basket with several apples. “From my tree,” he said, removing a worn cap. “You might like to make a pie.”
The three of us sat at the kitchen table and drank our tea. It was obvious that my daughter liked hosting a visitor in her never-ending questions. “What is your name Where do you live Why are your clothes so dirty ”
The homeless-looking man laughed as he answered each question. His name was Mr. Locket and he lived around the corner. His wife had passed away several years ago, and his children all lived far away. He was lonely. His need for company had sent him door to door selling fruit and vegetables. Ours was the only door opened to him that day.

When I was lonely, you took me in. When I was badly in need of a family, you accepted me. My last few years are filled with happiness because of you.”
