The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was written in 1876 by the famous author Mark Twain. The storyline is simple. The book is like a biography(自传) of Tom Sawyer's life.
Tom Sawyer is a smart but naughty young boy living in a small town on the Mississippi River. He is an orphan and lives with his aunt. He has many clever ideas, but he doesn't like school, and always likes to be absent from school to fish. Tom has a trusty friend, Huck Finn, who few of the adults approve of(认可). Tom Sawyer and Finn have great adventures on the Mississippi River, pretending to be pirates(海盗), attending their own funeral, and witnessing a murder. Tom overcomes fear and appears in court and speaks out the murderer. He and his friends finally discover a lot of treasures and they become millionaires…
Mark Twain's writing was based on his own childhood and his personal experience. What makes this story great is that Tom Sawyer represents everything that is great about childhood. It is a story filled with action, adventures, ingenious(巧妙的) ideas, love and schoolyard politics. Seemingly, the whole story is a complication of what Twain did or wised to do during his childhood.
The book is a little difficult to read at first. Perhaps, it will take you a little while to get used to the 19th century dialect in the book. But on the whole, the book is an enjoyable read for people of all ages. I highly recommend this book to anyone look ing forward to feeling young again.

There was a time when no one knew the name Harry Potter. Now the adventures of this extraordinary student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are read in over 45 languages, including Russian, Thai and even ancient Greek. No one can explain the Harry Potter phenomenon(现象)—not even J.K. Rowling, his creator.
J.K. Rowling was born in England in 1965. From a young age, she knew she wanted to be a writer. When she was 6, she wrote her first story—about a rabbit that gets sick. At school, she used to make up stories to tell her friends.
After graduation from college, she worked as a secretary. But she didn't give up her dream.
She spent her lunch hour writing stories, mainly for adults. Then in 1990, on a train trip to London, she got the idea from a thin boy. She says a boy wizard just appeared in her head. She soon created many other characters to help Harry fight the forces of darkness.
She kept working on the story while she was teaching English in Portugal, where she married, had her first child and divorced(离婚) a year later. When she returned to England, she brought back a box of Harry Potter stories.
After returning home, she was broken and living in a small house. She continued writing, and in 1995, finished the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It was published(出版) in 1997 and became an unexpected bestseller.
Rowling's life has changed a lot.She has become internationally famous and now earns around $40 million a year. She remarried, had a second child and lives in Scotland now.
