What is time Is it a thing to be saved or spent or wasted, like money Or is it something we have no 65 over, like the weather Is time the same all over the world
That’s an easy question. Wherever you go, a minute is 60 seconds, an hour is 60 minutes, a day is 24 hours, and so forth. But in America, time is more than that. Americans see time as a 66 resource. Maybe that’s why they are fond of the expression“Time is money.”
Because Americans believe time is a limited resource, they try to save and manage it. People in the US often attend meetings or read books on time management. It seems they all want to 67 their time better. Professionals carry around pocket planners to keep track of appointments and deadlines.
To Americans, being on time is a way of showing 68 to others. Being more than 10 minutes late for an appointment usually calls for an apology and an explanation. People who are running late often call ahead to let others know the reason. Of course, the less formal the situation is, the less important it is to be 69 on time.
American lifestyles show how much people care about the time of others. If people want to come to your house for a friendly visit, they will usually call first to make sure it is convenient. Also, people 70 to call others late at night for fear they might be in bed. The time may differ, but most folks think twice about calling after 10 p.m.
Even Americans would admit that no one can master time. Time ---like money---slips all easily through our fingers. And time---like the weather---is very hard to predict. Nevertheless, time is one of life’s most valuable gifts. And unwrapping it is half the fun.

Do We Really Need Smart Cities
Cities around the world are racing to become “smart.” It’s just like a classroom full of hard-working s 71 .Take Toronto, Canada, for example. Tech company Google has made public a 1,500-page plan. It is going to remake two neighborhoods with things like snow-melting roads.
To build smart cities, we need lots of new technologies, such as robots and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies will lead to s 72 and more efficient cities. However, they will also raise questions about privacy.
But there is a more serious problem: Smart cities will be difficult to m 73 .
As we know all too well from our personal lives, tech products are sometimes unreliable. The Internet and our computers break down r 74 . Tech products also age quickly. Only a few years into their lives, problems may become commoner and commoner.
In smart cities, many basic systems and services, such as water services, are based on such tech products. What if they sometimes break down Can you imagine the result
New technologies in 2020 will be outdated before 2025. If we use smart technologies widely in cities, we will need to be prepared to c 75 them every few years. But who would want to pay this bill
The most important problem is whether having a smart city will make us better at s 76 urban problems. Smart technologies can’t deal with problems on their own.Suppose AI programs discover a road that needs to be r 77 . It still needs people to show up with asphalt and a steamroller( 沥青和压路机), doesn't it
As an engineer, I think smart technologies should have a place in cities. However, that place is not everywhere. For many of our urban problems, we don’t really need the latest technologies. The best of the old ideas work better.
Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答下列问题)(12 分)
Teen Businessmen
When Fotios Tsiouklas and Alan Gokoglu first met in Year 7, they “didn't really like each other.” But today, they’re not only best friends; they have also co-founded a business.
The teenagers went into business together while they were in high school. Now, their company has really taken off.
Fotios was just 13 when he started buying gaming codes(游戏代码)from a small website and reselling them on eBay. He made a $10,000 profit “very quickly.” By the time he was 15, he had been making up to $1,000 a week selling broken phones he had fixed on eBay. In 2015, he spent the summer holiday learning how to create mobile apps. Over the next few years, he sold more than 100 apps that made a total of $521,247. He achieved all of this on his own.
But it wasn’t until early 2017 that he went into business together with Alan. The teens created a company called Kickspan. It offers a range of services to more than 12,000 clients, including website and mobile app development, Facebook advertising and Instagram management, graphic design(美术设计)and data collection. The business is now valued at more than $5 million.
“When we met in Year 7, we didn’t really like each other,” said Fotios, now 19. “So it’s pretty
ironic (讽刺的) that we later ended up as best friends and went into business together.”
Fotios said the pair would meet up in the school library and spend their lunchtimes working for
clients.
But according to Alan, they had faced some tough times at school despite their success. “People used to say we were going nowhere. They just laughed at us. It was annoying, but it pushed us to succeed,” Alan said. “We always believed in ourselves. That self-belief helped us push through difficulties in life and in business. We knew we were going to succeed and nothing could stop us.”
Fotios is now studying business and Alan plans to study IT next year, though their main focus remains on their business.
And despite their big success, they said they were less concerned with financial rewards than professional ones.
“To be honest, I don’t do it for the money. Seeing those results makes me proud, but what I really love is coming up with new things people love,” Alan said.
Fotios Tsiouklas and Alan Gokoglu became good friends right after they first met, didn't they
What can we know about Fotios from paragraph 3 Use at least two adjectives to describe him.
What does Kickspan do
How much is Kickspan valued at now
How did Fotios and Alan deal with the fact that some people at school would laugh at their business
Suppose you were a student at Fotios and Alan’s school. What would you like to say to them
