微专题阅读理解题一

Some people live to climb the highest mountains. Some people only think about climbing while others avoid climbing. But one thing is true that all people come across mountains in their lives.
When I was little,my family moved to a small town.It was built at the bottom of a big mountain. One day after school, while walking through the green woods of this mountain,I saw a set of stairs. What could these steps lead to?Could this be the way to the top?I made a decision to find out the mystery behind those steps;I climbed and climbed till it was getting dark, but I wasn't even close to the top.
The voice of reason (理智)told me to hurry back home and try.again the next day.I ran back home in the dark, trying not to get too scared.I didn't tell anyone about what I found that night.I went to bed dreaming about what I would find at the top of the mountain we lived on.Could there be a prince, treasures or ghosts up there?
Ah,such childhood fantasies(幻想)!Those were the days when we dared to dream. We dared to do crazy things! Now I'm grown up,and life has shown me a beating(惨败)at.times.
I did live on a mountain in a town as I wrote, but I created this childhood fantasy to make my days so much more fun as a kid.The challenges we face in life are like mountains we need to climb.Dreaming about what's at the top of the mountain makes us think about what we want out of life.Tomorrow is another day,and still,we must climb.

So most of us think friends are the most important people in our lives.
It is very important for teenagers to have one good friend or a group of friends. It may be because we can discuss some personal things with friends. Of course we won’t tell these things to our family members.

The 12th lunar month in China is called layue. The character “la” in the Chinese language means to respect ancestors and gods and give best wishes to them. In Chinese tradition, such activities were held at the end of a year in the Chinese lunar calendar.
There are two important dates in layue. The first is the Laba Festival on the 8th day of the lunar month. The Laba Festival was a time for the ancient Chinese to wish a good harvest and good luck in the coming year. Laba porridge is the main dish on this day.
The other important date is the Kitchen God Worshipping(祭拜) on the 23rd or 24th of the month. People offer food to the Kitchen God, who manage things for the whole family.
It is said that the god returns to heaven that day to report to the Jade Emperor (the ruler of heaven in Chinese stories) about the family activities over the past year. So people usually offer him delicious dishes so that he will give a good report and the family will have a good luck throughout the next year.

In the summer between my first year and second year in college, I was invited to be an instructor(辅导员)at a high school camp. On the first day, when we were dancing and playing games, I noticed a boy under the tree who was small and thin. His shyness made him appear weak. I walked towards him, introduced myself and invited him to join in the activities and meet some new people. He quietly replied, “No, I really don’t want to do this.” I could understand that he was in a new world but I knew it wouldn’t be right to force him, either. Actually, the boy didn’t need a close talk but a friend.
At lunch the next day, I was leading camp songs when I saw the boy under the tree sitting alone. I tried again with the same invitation, but he said no once again. That evening I was told the boy’s name was Tommy. Then I asked the campers to pay special attention to the boy and spend time with him when they could.
The days went by and the time came when we had to leave. We held a big, warm party to celebrate the closing of the camp. All the campers shared their wonderful moments. To my surprise, I found the boy from under the tree dancing joyfully with two girls. I couldn’t believe it was the same person.
In October of my second year, I received a phone call from Tommy’s mother. She told me that Tommy was hit by a car and killed. I offered my deep sadness. The mother said “Tommy mentioned you so many times. I want you to know that he went back to school and made new friends with confidence. You made a difference for Tommy during his last months. ”
At that moment, I realized how easy it was to give a bit of yourself every day. You may never know how much each small action may mean to someone else. I hope that everyone can pay attention to their own “boy under the tree”.

All of us feel down from time to time. Many of us have ways to cheer ourselves up and make ourselves feel better. This is referred to as “self-care”.
This idea comes from Japan. It refers to any activity that can calm one’s feelings, clear one’s mind, and comfort a troubled heart, according to China News Service. It was first used to describe the music of Japanese songwriter Ryuichi Sakamoto in1999.
Self-care is now popular in China as well. One of the most popular activities is “healing(治愈的) travel”. According to Caissa Touristic, a Beijing based travel agency, more Chinese tourists are going on meditation(冥想) or yoga retreats in places like Japan, Bali and India.
By taking these trips, people can learn more about local culture and the way people in these countries live. Without a tour guide or detailed plan, they allow their bodies and minds to relax. This way, they forget about daily stresses and noisy surroundings(周遭事物) back home.
Having a pet can also help. Research has shown that pets and humans can heal each other, NPR reported. Strong human-to-animal bonds(情感联系) make both pets and their owners happier and healthier. Last year, Chinese dog and cat owners spent over 5,000 yuan per pet on average. China’s pet industry now has a value of 170 billion yuan, Xinhua reported.
More people are seeking out self-care activities simply because they can finally afford to(花费得起). With fewer worries on money, they can slow down and take a closer look at their own inner world, The Paper noted.

D. Chinese pet owners spend a lot of money on their pets.

A. Ryuichi Sakamoto s music can make people feel better.
B. People who have pets are not necessarily happier or healthier.
C. The middle class experiences more stress and mental health problems than other classes.
D. Chinese people will spend more money on their pets in 2020.

This will keep some insects away. High land with water on both sides of it is good. Then we put up our tent. We put everything into the tent, and we are ready for fun. We can swim in the lake, walk in the woods, climb a mountain, row a boat, or go fishing.
In the evening we come back to the tent, and we build a big fire because it can keep the insects away. We sit around the fire and talk. We may tell interesting stories or we may sing songs.
At night we lie down on the grass. We can look u p at the stars. It is a busy day, so we try to go to sleep early.

For many of us, the idea of a family is a lot narrower(狭窄的) than it used to be. Today children go away to college, and take up jobs wherever chances seem greatest. So instead of growing up in a family with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, many of us are truly connected(有联系的) only to our parents, brothers and sisters.
Many kids today know little about the lives of their relatives(亲人) and don’t care deeply about them.
Whether we realize it or not, this feeling of being not connected makes people feel kind of lonely. “People need to feel connected,” says Joy Browne, a doctor in the U.S.
We need to stay connected to our own families. Parents can help by telling their children stories about their grandparents, aunts and cousins, and by telling them the children’s latest activities and interests.
We can also use technology to keep connected with each other. It’s easy to send e-mails to grandparents and take a vacation with members of your relatives – not with any other person. A week or so of relaxing vacation can be a great way to tie up family relationship. And when a bad thing happens, no one can be as helpful as your relatives. Because no matter how much we cry for the famous people, they can’t be there to cry for us.

Be kind to yourself
Appreciate what you have done. Everyone has different talents which can help to make the world become a better one. Remember you don't need to satisfy everyone. No matter what others think of you, just be yourself.

Think about your family
The values of your family are to give you what you really need. Maybe you can't get help when you have small problems. But you can learn how to depend on yourself. When you meet big problems, your family will always be with you.
Hold on to your dream
Holding on to your dream can make you braver and stronger. On the way of achieving your dream, you'll know who you are and what you want. Even though you can't achieve it, you'll find you are better and you can still live a normal life.

Double 11 is on Nov.11, also known as Singles’ Day. (November 11 was chosen because the date is written as four ones, or singles). It will be held every year. And the annual Singles’ Day shopping festival has become a global shopping carnival(嘉年华), which is also the world’s busiest online shopping day. Its GMV(成交额) of last year is over 213.5 billion yuan, more than the total GMV of Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the United States both together. In China, when you are invited to a wedding, it is a tradition to give a red envelope (红包) -- money in a red envelope. In traditional Chinese culture, the color red is a symbol of happiness and good luck. Therefore, red envelopes stand for best wishes.
The tradition of giving red envelopes dates back to the Qing Dynasty. The elder would thread (穿成串) coins with red or colorful strings (线). They thought this could protect their children away form sickness and death. Later, red envelopes replaced the red strings.
Now, red envelopes are more like a way to socialize(与…交往) with others. When you give a red envelope, just as what everyone else does, you feel a part of the circle. However, this tradition also has its downsides. Most young people, who have just started their careers, can’t afford to give a lot of money. They find themselves in dilemma. Of course you can choose not to do so. But you may gradually (渐渐地) find yourself out of some social activities.
Some people are calling for a change to the tradition. They argue that we don’t have to give money to show our good wishes. In the UK and the US, people usually just give pretty cards to the married couple. Close friends give gifts, but the gifts are usually household (家庭的) things that are not very expensive.

Q
You may not realize it, but you are doing much more than just studying when you are at school. School is also the place where you learn to get on well with people. But this is not always easy. What can you do if you just don’t like one of your classmates
If you discover (发现) that you have problems getting on with your classmates or friends, the most important thing to learn is tolerance. Tolerance is the ability(能力)to realize and respect (尊敬) the differences in others. We can not change the way that other people do, so it is important to learn to live happily with them.
Tolerance will make everyone get on better with each other. Getting to know someone may help you understand why he does things differently. Something different does not exactly mean that it is bad. Tolerance teaches us to keep a temperate(温和的) and open mind.
You need to remember an old saying, “Treat others how you want to be treated”. If you tolerate something, it does not mean that you have to like it. No one is asking you to change who you are or what you believe in. Tolerance just means that you should respect the differences in others and not try to make them change.
It is important to practice tolerance, because it will make everyone’s life easier. Learn to accept people for their different abilities and interests. The world is very different, and practicing tolerance in your own school and city can help make a difference.
