Part 1 teaching material analysis
this belong to the reading part of this unit. Before this class, ss may have learned the vocabularies or some important words of this unit. so in the beginning of this class i will review some of these word to check if ss have memory in mind, and its also convenient for teacher to get this class started. The type of this passage is exposition, which is about a wonderful migration of butterfly called monarch.

Guide ss to reading more helpful material so that get to know how can we save the creature.

In this lesson, i will mainly use task-based teaching method, communicative approach and study-research method to guide ss to use effective reading strategies to comprehend the text and to solve difficults and complete different tasks.
Part 5 teaching procedures
Step 1: lead-in
Make a greeting
show some pictures and ask a question: can you use one or two words to describe their action Ss answer: migration.
Teacher add definition of the animal migration, and then give some pair of pictures to ss to choose the one that migrate.
One of above picture is the monarch, so teacher let ss enjoy a video about monarch migration.
Step 2: while reading
Scanning:
1)read the passage and find out what mystery the scientists have solved.
Answer: the mystery of how monarch butterflies manage to travel a long distance and find their way to their destination.
2)choose where you’re most likely to find the passage.
A scientific research paper; a popular nature magazine; a travel leaflet
Main idea of this passage
Skimming:
Fill in the blanks in the chart
Complete the sentences with expressions from the passage. Then use the sentences to complete the “cause-effect”flow charts.
Activity 1 :match the cause and the effects.
Activity 2 :match the main idea of each paragraph.

What impress you most about the monarch butterfly
What can people do to help protect the monarch butterfly
Step 4 summary
Choose the right item from the box and make the summary complete.
Step 5 homework
Assign a Group work for them after this lesson:What other animals do you know have similar condition to monarch butterfly What do you think people should do to help them
