The First Period 1(Section A, 1a–2d)

1. Warm-up and revision (课堂热身和复习)
(1) Daily greeting to the students(日常问候)
(2) Revision(复习): Review the cardinal numbers and some nouns by translating the following phrases.

2. Presentation (呈现新知识)
Present the new words: month, January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December
T: What’s this in English? (show a picture of a calendar) . It’s a calendar. How many months are there in a year? There are 12 months in a year.
(Get the Ss to guess what month and year mean. Then, teach the Ss the names of the 12 months.)
3. Working on 1a.
(1) Listen and repeat.
(2) Ask some individual Ss to read the new words again. Correct their pronunciations when necessary.
4. A song.
Teach the Ss to sing the song of months.
5. Ordinal Numbers (序数词)
(1) Present the ordinal numbers from first to twelfth.
T: What is January? (Help the Ss to answer.)
Ss: It’s the first month of the year.
(Repeat the questions and answers for the other months and present the ordinal numbers from second to twelfth.)
(2) Present some other ordinal numbers.
(3) Read the ordinal numbers chart on page 81 of the Students’ Book.
(4) Work on 2a. Listen and repeat.

6. Work on 1b and 1c.
(1) Students listen and number the conversations. Check their answers quickly.
(2) Listen and repeat.
(3) Practice the conversations in pairs.
(4) Practice reading some dates.
7. Groupwork. (小组活动)
Ask the Ss to ask and answer about their own birthdays. Ask them to collect the birthdays of their group members and fill in the chart.
8. Listening practice. (听力练习)
(1) Work on 2b. Listen and circle the numbers you hear in 2a.
(2) Work on 2c. Listen and match the names, months and dates.
(3) Listen and read the conversations after the recording.
9. Pairwork. (两人活动)
Work on 2d.
(1) Talk about the children’s birthday in 2c using the sample conversation in the box.
(2) Ask your partner about the birthdays in his or her family.
10. Homework(家庭作业)
1. Remember the new words we learned today.
2. Look at the chart below and write a conversation between you and Mike like the conversation in 2d.

The Second Period (Section A, 2e–3c)
Teaching aims and language points:

1. Warm-up and revision (课堂热身和复习)
(1) Daily greeting to the students(日常问候)
(2) Review the names of the months: Flash the words and ask the Ss to say them out loud and spell them.
(3) Review the ordinal numbers by saying:
January is the first month of the year.
2. Grammar Focus.
(1) Read through the ordinal numbers in Grammar Focus and recite the rule of the ordinal numbers.
(2) Dictate some of the words like: first, second, third, fifth, eighth, ninth, twelfth, twentieth, twenty-fourth, thirty-sixth. Have Ss write out the words.
(3) Get the Ss to check their answers in pairs.
(4) Read through the sentences in Grammar Focus. Pay attention to the possessive pronouns and possessive case of nouns and the use of “in” and “on”.
(5) Study the Possessive Case of Nouns.
3. Presentation.
(1) Watch a video of Liu Qian.
(2) Ask questions about Liu Qian’s birthday and age. Present the question: “How old are you?”.
4. Work on 3c.
Ask the Ss to find out their group members’ birthdays and ages. They should fill in the chart. Then line up from the youngest to the oldest. See which group is the fastest.
5. Work on 2e.
(1) Read the conversation.
(2) Answer the questions. See if the Ss understand the conversation. Explain the things they don’t understand.
(3) Role-play the conversation.
6. Work on 3a.
Match the question and answers.
7. Work on 3b.
(1) Complete the conversation.
(2) Practice the conversation in pairs.

(1) Recite the conversation in Section A, 2e.

5. Writing.
(1) Work on 3a. Complete the note with the words in the box. Learn the word “there”.
(2) Ask some questions about the note in 3a.

(3) Work on 3b. Ask the Ss to write their own note to a friend.
Ask some of the Ss to write their notes on the board. Then discuss their notes with the whole class. Get the Ss to correct any mistake in their writings.

(1) Recite the text in Section B, 2b.
(2) Write a school notice like the one in Section B, 2b according to the calendar you made.
