Unit 6 Do you like bananas?
First Period (Section A, 1a–2c)
Teaching aims and language points:
1. Learn these words and be able to say, read and write them:
orange(s), banana(s), strawberry, strawberries, pear(s), apple(s), tomato(es), carrot(s), vegetable(s), hamburger(s), egg(s), ice-cream(s), salad(s), bread, chicken
2. Be able to talk about likes and dislikes by using:
I like hamburgers. He/She likes hamburgers.
I don’t like ice-cream. He/She doesn’t like hamburgers.
Do you like broccoli? Yes, I do./No, I don’t.
Does he/she like broccoli? Yes, he/she does. / No, he/she doesn’t.
3. Understand the difference between countable nouns and uncountable nouns.
Teaching steps:
1. Warm-up and revision (课堂热身和复习)
(1)Daily greeting to the students(日常问候)
(2)Revision(复习):What’s this/that in English?
What color is it?
T: What’s this in English? (show a picture of and orange)
S: It’s an orange.
T: What color is it?
S: It’s orange.
2. Presentation (呈现新知识)
(1) Go on asking: What’s this/that in English?
What color is it?
T: What’s this in English? (show a picture of an/a apple and if the student don’t know it, show the phonetic symbol of the word.)
S: It’s an apple.
T: Spell it, please.
S: A-P-P-L-E.
T: What color is it?
S: It’s red.
(Present the other three words as above: pear, strawberry, banana)
T: We can call all of these things fruit. (Teach the new word “fruit”.)
Show pictures and ask the Ss to spell the plural forms of these words: oranges, apples, pears, strawberries, bananas.
(2) Get the Ss to talk about their likes and dislikes in pairs and then in groups, by using the sentences:
I like … (and …). But I don’t like … (or …).
We/They like … We/They don’t like …
(3) Repeat step (1) to present: carrot, carrots, tomato, tomatoes and vegetable, vegatables.
(4) Get the Ss to ask and answer in pairs, using the sentences:
Do you like …(s/es)?
Yes, I do./No, I don’t.
(5) Present some more words by showing pictures. Get the Ss to make an effort to pronounce and spell the new words.
Ask the Ss to guess if the girl and the boy in the picture
like the things shown in the PPT. Then get them to ask and answer questions in pairs like this:
Does she/he like…?
Yes, she/he does. / No, she/he doesn’t.
3. Practice(练习)
(1) 1a. Match the words with the pictures
(2) 1b. Listen and number the conversations.
(3) 1c. First, practice the conversations in 1b.
Then, make a survey and fill in the chart below.

(4) 2a. Listen and circle the food you hear
(5) 2b. Listen and fill in the blanks.
4. Pairwork (结对练习)
Ask the Ss to imagine they are having lunch with one of their friends. Practice the conversation in 2b, then give answers that are true for them.
5. Homework(家庭作业)
(1)Write down the conversation (2c) between you and your partner.
(2)Write a report according to the survey.

Second Period (Section A, 2d–3c)
Teaching aims and language points:
1. Learn these words and be able to say, read and write them:
birthday, dinner, week, think about, food, sure, how about, burger, right, then, rice, so
2. Be able to talk about what to eat for a meal by using:
John’s birthday dinner is next week.
Let’s talk about the food.
How/What about …?
You’re right.
3. Consolidate the pronunciation and spelling of key vocabulary.
4. Be able to understand the main differences between countable and uncountable nouns.
Teaching steps:
1. Warm-up and revision (课堂热身和复习)
(1)Daily greeting to the students(日常问候)
(2)Revision(复习):
Look at the pictures, and say and spell the words.
Teach three new words: burger, milk, food.
(3)Work on 3b.
First, Ss read and number the conversation. Next, Ss discuss what the word “so” means in the conversation. Finally, Ss make up their own conversations in pairs.
2. Work on 2d
(1) Ss read the conversations by themselves and circle the food in it.
(2) Ss role-play the conversation in groups of three.
(3) Answer some questions about the conversation.
(4) Read the conversation again. Try to understand the conversation better and pay attention to some key sentences.
3. Study the grammar (学习语法)
(1) Ss complete the exercise in 3a by themselves.
(2) Ss work in groups to check their answers.
(3) Get the Ss to discuss two questions.
(4) Read Grammar Focus and answer the questions.
4. Chant (吟诵)
Join us, join us. Let’s have a party.
Do you like salad? Yes, I do.
Do you like bread? No, I don’t.
Does he like apples? Yes, he does.
Does she like pears? No, she doesn’t.
Do they like hamburgers? Yes, they do.

5. Pronunciation and spelling (发音和拼写)
Read the words in groups, and say what sound the red letters make in each group. Read the words aloud a few times. Get the Ss to give more examples.
6. Homework(家庭作业)
Work on 3c.

Third Period (Section B, 1a–1e & Self Check)
Teaching aims and language points:
1. Learn these words and be able to say, read and write them:
eat, breakfast, lunch
2. Be able to talk about what to eat for a meal by using:
Tom likes/eats carrots for lunch.
Sally likes/eats eggs for breakfast.
3. Consolidate the new words in this unit.
4. Consolidate the structures like:
Does Tom like carrots?
Yes, he does./No, he doesn’t.
Teaching steps:
1.Warm-up and revision (课堂热身和复习)
(1)Daily greeting to the students(日常问候)
(2)Revision(复习):Check the homework.
Ask some of the Ss to read out their reports. Get the other Ss to listen carefully and correct any mistakes in the reports.
2. Presentation (呈现新知识)
(1)Work on Section B, 1a.
Ss work on 1a by themselves first. Then, check their answers in pairs like this:
A: These are eggs. It’s number 3.
B: Yes, you’re right. (No, I don’t think so. It’s number …)
This is an apple. It’s number 4.
Finally, check the answers together.
(2)Work on Section B, 1b.
Set a time limit of two minutes. Ask the Ss to discuss the lists in pairs and write their answers on their books,and ask two Ss to write their answers on the board.
(3) Work on Section B, 1c
Listen and circle the food in 1a. Then check the answers together.
(4) Work on Section B, 1d.
Listen again and fill in the chart. Ss check their answers in pairs like this:
A; Tom likes … and … Tom doesn’t like … or …
B: Sally likes … and … Sally doesn’t like … or …
(5) Teacher presents the new words:eat, breakfast, lunch
T: Every day, we usually eat three meals. In the morning, we eat breakfast. At about noon, we eat lunch. In the evening, we eat dinner.
Ask the Ss these questions:
Whose breakfast/lunch/dinner is it? Why?
Get the Ss to guess and check their answers.
3. Practice(练习)
Work on 1e. Practice the conversations in pairs like this:
A: Does Tom like carrots?
B: Yes, he does. He likes/eats carrots for lunch.
(No, he doesn’t. He doesn’t like/eat … for lunch.)
4. Work on Self Check, activity 1.
5. Read aloud.
Practice the pronunciation on p. 74 (Unit 6, activity 2).
5. Homework(家庭作业)
(1) (Self Check, activity 2) What food, sports and colors do you like and dislike? Write at least three sentences.
(2) (Self Check, activity 3) What food, sports and colors do your parents like and dislike? Write at least five sentences.

Fourth Period (Section B, 2a–3b)
Teaching aims and language points:
1. Learn these words and be able to say, read and write them:
star, well, habit, healthy, really, question, want, be, fat
2. Be able to talk about and write about one’s eating habits by using:
What do you like for breakfast?
Do you like hamburgers for dinner?
They’re not healthy.
I don’t want to be fat.
Cindy likes healthy food.
3. Be able to understand difficult sentences like:
Which food do you think is healthy?
David asks the volleyball star, Cindy Smith, about her eating habits.
Teaching steps:
1.Warm-up and revision (课堂热身和复习)
(1)Daily greeting to the students(日常问候)
(2)Revision(复习): Check the homework.
Ask some of the Ss to read out their sentences. Get the other Ss to listen carefully and correct any mistakes.
(3) Competition.
Show the Ss a chart about what Bob and Gina like and don’t like for their breakfast and lunch.
Ss first practice in pairs. Then, make them have a competition in groups when they act out their conversations.
2. Presentation (呈现新知识)
(1) Ask some of the Ss the following questions and help them to answer.
Do you think hamburgers are healthy?
Do you think milk is healthy?
Do you think chicken is healthy?
Do you think salad is healthy?
(2) Work on Section B, 2a.
Set a time limit of three minutes. Ask the Ss to ask and answer questions and check Yes, Maybe or No in the chart.
3. Reading(阅读3b)
(1) Read the magazine article quickly and answer the questions:
Does Cindy eat healthy food?
Does she have good eating habits?
Ask the questions first. Then, see if the students understand the questions. Next, get the Ss to read the article quickly to find out the answers. Finally, check the answers.
(2) Read the magazine article again and circle the food words.
(3) Put the food words into the chart below.
(4) Read the article aloud.
4. Writing (写作)
Ss work on 2c. They write five sentences according to the chart above.
5. Study the key words and difficult sentences in this part of the book.
6. Work on 3a in pairs.
7. Homework(家庭作业)
Work on 3b. Ask the Ss to write about what they and their partners like and don’t like for breakfast, lunch and dinner according to their survey.
