1.(2022 皇姑区校级模拟)The key to a successful garage sale is to get the word out.The best way of advertising your sale is to place an ad in the local newspaper. If you have a city and neighborhood paper, make sure you advertise in both. The ad should be large enough to stand out.It should also include information on where the sale is located with directions, the "hot" items you're selling and the time when the sale will start and end.An ad should be placed at least two days before the sale and run until the day of your event. That way people can plan their route to the sale in advance.
Signs must be another great way to inform your community.Post them where people gather, such as stores and community centers. Some businesses have a central bulletin board, which is the best place to advertise.Other places to post are at the local college or university campus. This is especially helpful if your sale is happening in August or early September when students have returned to school and are looking for cheap finds.
Post signs round your neighborhood. You should also place both ads and direction signs, especially if you're located on a side street without a major presence.Signs will attract and direct people.Just make sure your print is in bold letters and use large direction signs so that people can read the information from the front seat of their car.

2.(2022 道里区校级一模)Born into poverty on 21 May 1799,Mary Anning had to work hard from a young age.Her parents had 10 children,of whom only two survived childhood — Mary and her elder brother Joseph.Mary's own survival was said by her parents to be a wonder. At the age of 15 months,a sudden rainstorm hit the shelter, where Mary, her babysitter, and two children stayed.A lightning strike killed them all except Mary.
She didn't have formal education and was only taught to read at a Sunday school.Raised in the seaside holiday village of Lyme Regis in Dorset,Mary and Joseph made a living by selling fossils to holidaymakers at their father's waterfront booth.
Her life changed in 1811 when Joseph noticed bones mixed together with rock.Unknown to them, this was the first ever discovery of an ichthyosaurus (鱼龙),a marine lizard from the Triassic period.Anning noted down every find she made, and after failing to find any new fossils for over a year,in 1821 she made her next discovery, digging up three more ichthyosaur skeletons. This was followed two years later by an even more impressive find — a complete plesiosaur (蛇颈龙).This was so extraordinary that many leading scientists declared it fake, unwilling to believe that an uneducated 24﹣year﹣old could find such remarkable remains.Additionally, society at the time was highly religious and many rejected these discoveries as they conflicted with the teachings of the Bible.
Despite the setback,Anning continued to make more shocking revelations.Anning also dug up fossilized waste, which made experts know the diets of prehistoric creatures. But her biggest find of all was the first complete skeleton of a pterosaur (翼龙) in 1828.
All of Mary Anning's discoveries helped influence the study of paleontology (古生物学) as scientists began to take an increased interest in fossilized animals and plants. Her work also encouraged people to question the history of the Earth in more detail and encouraged girls and those from poor backgrounds by proving that they could succeed in scientific study,a profession mainly controlled by wealthy upper﹣class men.
(1)What can we learn about Mary Anning from the first two paragraphs?
A.It was not easy for her to survive.
B.She didn't experience the lightning strike.
C.She sold fossils to the locals in the supermarkets on weekends.
D.It was impossible for her to find a job outside.
(2)Why many leading scientists thought Anning's discovery was fake?
A.Because Joseph mixed bones together with rock.
B.Because Anning didn't study the ichthyosaurus when she was at school.
C.Because Anning wasn't well﹣educated and the discovery conflicted with the Bible.
D.Because Anning didn't believe in the Bible.
(3)Anning's findings of fossilized waste helped .
A.her get international fame
B.make her become more professional
C.experts better understand prehistoric creatures
D.convince the leading scientists of her discovery
(4)What does the last paragraph mainly show?

4.(2022 青羊区校级二模)Psychological science is full of interesting topics, many of which tell a coherent picture of human nature, but some of which create seemingly contradictory stories.A case in point is the tricky and misunderstood overlap between strength﹣based science and the research on narcissism(自恋).
There is now convincing evidence to show that narcissism is on the rise, especially in our youth. Some researchers have gone so far as to say that it is occurring in epidemic proportions, with about 25% of young people showing symptoms of narcissism. The inflated ego of Generation Me is reflected in reality TV,celebrity worship, out﹣of﹣control consumerism and materialism...perhaps even a new type of president.
We are correct to be concerned about this phenomenon but our fear that all kids are potential narcissists has caused an unhelpful counter﹣reaction to approaches that seek to make our children and teens feel good about themselves.
In my own research on strength﹣based parenting it is common for people to wrongly label this approach as a recipe for narcissism.Their argument seems to be that children who know their strengths will automatically view themselves as better than everyone else.It is argued that the self﹣assurance that comes with identifying and using their positive qualities will make a child arrogant, selfish and uncaring.Genuine confidence about one's strengths is categorized as over﹣confidence;desirable self﹣knowledge is branded as excessive self﹣admiration.
Why does this occur? It's partly because more is known about narcissism than strengths. While strengths psychology has largely stayed within the limit of academic journals or has been applied only within certain contexts such as the workplace, research on narcissism has made its way into the mass media and into our collective consciousness. The New York Times noted that narcissism is a favored "go﹣to" topic and that people everywhere are diagnosing others with it.
The fear that a strength﹣based approach will cause narcissism also occurs because we unknowingly fall prey to binary(非 此即彼)thinking. We mistakenly believe that one cannot be both confident and humble. We focus on Donald Trump and Kim Kardashian rather than Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa. There's no way that Gandhi and Mother Teresa could have achieved what they did without confidence in their strengths, and yet they are both pillars of modesty and selflessness.
When we assume that strength﹣focus is the same as a self﹣focus,we fail to entertain the idea that people who know their strengths are, actually, more likely to be pro﹣social and focus on helping others.
It's tempting to conclude that every young person is at risk of becoming a narcissist but I'd like to stand up for the thousands of young kids I have worked with who are caring, thoughtful and humble ﹣even when they use their strengths.
(1)Why are teenagers' strengths often mistaken for narcissism?
A.Strengths psychology is less accessible to the general public.
B.Academic journals and mass media report more on narcissism.
C.There is a lack of strengths in our collective consciousness.
D.Numbers of people are diagnosed with narcissism by doctors.
(2)The author mentions Gandhi and Teresa in paragraph 6 to show that
A.they are both victims of binary thinking

B.Teens' narcissism diagnosis.

"It wasn't just going on a trip.It was more about how we got through that hard time.It was fun for me,but it was lifeline for my parents." said Bob.

Gloria Crockett, president and chief executive officer of the organization, said she felt it amazing to have someone who benefited come back to pay it forward to other kids looking for wishes.
Contrary to popular belief,Gloria stressed that wishes aren't given to critically ill children as a "last wish",but are given as a part of the treatment process. The organization granted at least 165 wishes last year. This year Gloria hopes to grant somewhere between 199 and 299 wishes, depending on funding.

You may already be familiar with this story since it spread on Weibo for weeks during the Spring Festival, but it started when Matt began seeing photos of a Chinese man in front of an orange tree on his photo stream (照片流).He wrote about it and some Chinese readers decided to see if they could find the mysterious man. They did.It turns out that "Brother Orange," as he became known, owned a restaurant in Guangdong and the iPhone he was using,a gift from a nephew, was Matt's old phone.

This fall, children in the Eixample area of Barcelona have a new way to get to school on Fridays﹣they ride their bikes. In September,a group of five children began biking to school with their parents on Fridays.Soon the group grew to 150 or more. The bike bus begins around 8:25 every Friday morning. The path it will follow is always posted ahead of time,so everyone knows where to join.
Instead of riding in bike lanes (道) or on sidewalks, the bicibús takes over the entirestreet. The commute(通勤)of these bikers takes about 25 minutes. And with the ever﹣growing cycling and skating kids taking part in thisbike bus culture, the local police are helping stop traffic by riding in front of the bicibús and behind it.This further makes the parents happy that the additional security means their children will travel safely to school.
With music playing and bike bells ringing, the bicibús feels like a party. "The best part of the bicibús is that we ride along and pick up my friends and we ride together," nine﹣year﹣old Maria Pitarch says.
Some parents have made the bicibús the way they get to work on Friday.Parents are hoping that the bicibús will help change ideas about how people can get around in the city. They want the city to create wider, kid﹣friendly bike lanes that are separate from cartraffic. They point out that the bicibús also helps cut down on pollution.

9.(2022 石家庄一模)When someone damages their backbone, the injury can leave them paralyzed(瘫痪).Now,scientists have given three paralyzed men the ability to walk again, thanks to an implanted device.
The human backbone,or spine, doesn't just help us stand up straight.Inside is the spinal cord, which carries important information between the head and the lower part of the body. This information moves around as bursts of electricity traveling between the brain and the other parts of the body. When the spinal cord is hurt, this pathway gets damaged and they can't move their legs.
Now scientists in Switzerland have given three paralyzed men the ability to walk again. To help them walk again, the men had surgery.A special device was placed directly on the lower part of their spinal cord, below their injury. This "implant" contained sixteen electrodes, which are small objects that electricity can pass through. The researchers made sure the electrodes were lined up with nerves that control the leg muscles. The scientists controlled the implants from a tablet computer.
The patient's brains aren't sending "walking" messages to their legs.Instead, the tablet tells the implant to send the walking messages. The researchers used computers to generate patterns of movement, like taking a step. The patient then uses the tablet to choose the pattern and the muscles move in the chosen way.Over time, the men were able to walk using a special walker with buttons to control each leg.
The solution isn't perfect. It's very expensive,it requires difficult surgery, and the patients can't walk without the system. But the scientists are hopeful that in the future, this sort of technology will allow many paralyzed people to begin to walk again in just hours.

Klein is the kind of person you can imagine this happens a lot.Not because he's rude or forgetful or unreliable. In fact,he's not any of those things.
The Johannesburg﹣born Klein is an entrepreneur(企业家),often spoken about as the brains behind Lovefilm and an early.Employee at Skype, but his CV(履历) goes beyond that.
For now,he says, the majority of his time is taken up with the companies Local Globe has invested in. "I'm involved on some level with all the companies in the portfolio(投资组合)."What that means in practice is that Klein attends regular meetings, and extraordinary meetings "where we meet with the companies",and labs "when companies are coming up for important events like fundraising".Oh,and on top of that,he's also part of every company's WhatsApp group﹣200 groups to be precise.
"Time is nothing to him,so he'll be replying to messages at 5 o'clock in the morning," one of his assistants says. But Klein,a father of three children aged 12,11 and 4,says he actually tries to be "quite strict" with his time. "I've always tried not to do business at breakfast or dinner time.I try to be able to take the kids to school in the morning, and normally be at home for bedtime.Obviously as the kids get older, they don't want you around as much, but that's not the case while they're this age," he says.
This routine isn't just limited to mornings and evenings,Klein says.Ever since he started dating his wife, they both have practiced "lifestyle Shabbat", "It basically, means from a Friday night to a Saturday night,I'm not looking at emails,I'm not answering my phone, and I avoid driving. We've been doing that for almost 20 years at this point.I've always found that to be a great relief."

15.(2022 湖南一模)A few years ago,my husband Charlie and I had marital problems.Growing family responsibilities and financial worries took a toll on us and we began arguing frequently, often late into the night.
However, neither of us could take the step that would end our eleven﹣year marriage and bring heartbreak to our three young children.Deep down we knew we still loved each other,so we determined to work it out.Through countless discussions,we began to close the gulf. The more honest we were, the closer we became.
When I felt we were reaching solid ground,I asked my husband to give me an "eternity (永恒)ring".It was not so much the ring I wanted;it was the reassurance(保证)I thought it would bring.
We went shopping on a beautiful summer day.We walked hand in hand along a row of jeweler's shops. Finally I found a ring I liked. While waiting for it to be adjusted, the jeweler took my left hand and glanced at my engagement ring. "May I clean it for you?" he asked. "It really doesn't sparkle like it used to." Charlie said as I slipped the ring off my finger.A few minutes later the jeweler was back. The ring shone like new!
On the drive home,I didn't take my eyes off it.I forgot all about the eternity ring.I just couldn't believe how this old ring suddenly sparkled the way it had the day Charlie gave it to me.I had taken it for granted these past years, but with a little polish it could still make my heart beat fast.
And that's the way it is with a marriage. You have to work at keeping it polished and new,or else the grime(污垢) of the passing years will hide the joy.I put my hand on the seat between us and spread my fingers.Charlie covered my hand with his.I felt I was lucky to be able to see the sparkle in something gold when I thought I needed something new.

16.(2022 长春二模)One CT image of a brain changed science and medicine forever.
Half a century ago,the first CT image of a patient lifted the veil (面纱) of invisibility that covers the interior of the human body, providing scientists a window on our innards (内脏) unlike any before.
Today, doctors in the United States alone order more than 80 million scans per year.X﹣ray computed tomography,or CT,is frequently the quickest way of getting a handle on what's causing a mysterious problem.CT scans can find out heart disease, tumors, blood clots, internal bleeding and more. The technique can give surgeons a heads﹣up about what they will encounter inside a patient, and guide treatment for cancer and other diseases.
"It answers so many questions quickly. That's why it's used," says medical physicist Cynthia McCollough of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,Minn.
A CT scan involves thousands of X﹣ray measurements taken from multiple angles. Here's how it works:A source of X﹣rays moves around the body, sending a beam (光束) of radiation through bone, blood and tissue, while moving detectors measure the beam that makes it through.
Different materials in the body absorb X﹣rays differently. The calcium (钙) in bone actively absorbs X﹣rays, for example, while soft tissues absorb less.So when the data collected by the detectors are joined together by a computer,it can form a cross﹣sectional view of what's inside based on where X﹣rays are absorbed more or less.Moving the table holding the patient so that the X﹣ray beam and detectors slide along the body enables 3﹣D reconstructions of organs and other parts.
Over the years, scientists have continually improved the technology, making it faster and higher resolution (清晰度),and cutting the amount of radiation that patients receive. These improved CT scans have painted ever more detailed landscapes of the human body. It's hard not to be impressed by the beauty of the inner world that the scans bring to the surface.
(1)What does the underlined word "heads﹣up" in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Measure.
B.Choice.

B.By collecting and sending data to the computer.
C.By checking the amount of calcium in the bone.

(3)Which of the following can reflect the improvement in X﹣rays technology?
A.Lower speed.
B.More radiation.
C.Higher resolution.
D.Fewer details.
(4)What is the writer's attitude towards CT scans?

Bol built a dollhouse﹣size structure that looked like a schoolhouse on a post and he put it in his yard as a free community library to remember his mother, who was a book lover and school teacher.Bol's prototype gave birth to Little Free Library(LFL),a nonprofit organization that seeks to place small, accessible book exchange boxes in neighborhoods around the world. The concept is simple:Neighbors are invited to share a book, leave a book,or both.Today, there are over 50,000 of these libraries registered in 70 countries.
Almost everyone can register with LFL and start a library as long as the person keeps it in good shape and makes sure that book materials are appropriate for his/her neighborhood.Library owners can create their own library boxes;therefore, the libraries are usually unique in appearance, and there seems to be no limit to the possibilities. One library in California was built out of a used wine container;another in Texas had tiny stairs and bright colored walls.Once registered, libraries are assigned a number at LFL's website. The LFL Index lists the locations of all libraries with GPS coordinates (坐标)and other information.Owners receive a sign saying "Little Free Library".
People say they have been attracted to pick up a book when walking by a Little Free Library, out of curiosity and because it's convenient. Some sidewalk librarians say they have met more neighbors since having a little library in their front yard.Bol is also most proud of the way Little Free Library is bringing communities together.

A.Because Joseph mixed bones together with rock.
B.Because Anning didn't study the ichthyosaurus when she was at school.
C.Because Anning wasn't well﹣educated and the discovery conflicted with the Bible.
D.Because Anning didn't believe in the Bible.
(3)Anning's findings of fossilized waste helped C .
A.her get international fame
B.make her become more professional
C.experts better understand prehistoric creatures
D.convince the leading scientists of her discovery

In my own research on strength﹣based parenting it is common for people to wrongly label this approach as a recipe for narcissism.Their argument seems to be that children who know their strengths will automatically view themselves as better than everyone else.It is argued that the self﹣assurance that comes with identifying and using their positive qualities will make a child arrogant, selfish and uncaring.Genuine confidence about one's strengths
