Hello, ladies and gentlemen! I'm your guide today. First, I'd like to tell you something about London before we get there. As you know, London is the capital of England. It lies on the River Thames, in the southeast of England.
Now it has turned into a very big modern city. There are about seven million, five hundred thousand people in this city. They are very friendly and helpful. They are always glad to tell visitors about their city. London is a busy place. People work in offices, banks or for companies. They are in a hurry all the time.
London is also a beautiful city. It has lots of parks and gardens. When you're in London you should visit the City Park. You can go boating and fly kites there. You may also climb up to London Eye and enjoy the beauty of the whole city. There are also many other places of interest, such as the Big Ben, the Tower Bridge and so on. At the same time, you can taste London chocolate. It's very delicious. Wish you a good time!

In order to build a civilized city, we students should try our best to behave well in public places.
In public places, we should keep quiet and keep the ground clean. We shouldn't drop litter anywhere. It's important to queue for our turn. We should obey traffic rules and never run the red light. On the bus, we should give our seats to someone in need. We shouldn't make much noise while eating. It's impolite to talk with the mouth full of food. Before you leave, wait for everyone to finish.
I think if everyone can follow the advice above, our city will be more civilized.8B Unit 5 单元测试卷

四、阅读理解 (10分)
Manners have developed (发展) for over thousands of years. In order to live closer together, humans in old times learned to think about others. Through the years, the manners have changed a lot. But some of them are still used. For example, why are you told to keep your elbows (肘) off the table The rule started from the Middle Ages. At that time, tables were just a big board placed on a stump (树桩). Keeping your elbows on the table could easily tip it and make everyone lose his food.
Today, it’s not good manners to play with your phone at the table, because it sends a message that you aren’t interested in the people around you. People had the same feeling about that kind of thing before they had phones. The US President Jimmy Carter’s 9-year-old daughter, Amy, caused a manners outcry (强烈抗议) more than 30 years ago when she was found reading at the table at a formal White House dinner.
No matter how manners change, they are always doing the same thing—making other people feel comfortable and respected (受尊重的), which also helps friendships develop.

六、 阅读与回答问题 (10分)
There are many holidays and festivals. Dads have Father's Day. Mums have Mother's Day. But do our grandparents have a special festival Yes, they do.
The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for the old people in China. It started long ago. The festival is on lunar September 9th. On this day, people show love and respect (尊重) to their grandparents.
There are many ways in which Chinese people express their respect to older people. When an older person enters a room, everyone stands up. People are introduced from the oldest to the youngest. When we present a book to an older person, two hands are used. Young people always offer their seats to older people on a crowded subway or bus.
Respecting older people is a tradition in China. That's because the Chinese know that older people have knowledge and experience that young people can learn.
Chinese people are proud of being old. In Western countries, however, older people seldom think they are old. They are called "seniors" instead of "old people". They'd rather do everything themselves. Even after retirement (退休), they take up hobbies, part-time jobs and new activities to keep their bodies healthy.
Westerners respect their older people too. Usually, seniors don't have to buy tickets for trains or buses. They are given discounts (折扣) in stores and restaurants.
But Western seniors don't often live with their children--they live alone. For holidays, the family usually gather together at the grandparents' home, and a great smile and a warm hug for their parents are enough for grown children to show their respect.
