2: Daniel is thinking of the lifestyle. He is comparing the life on the earth and on the Mars. And help him decide if Mars is a good place to live in.

Step1 导入
Show students some pictures on page12A. Let them go over some words about equipments used in space.
Ask students if they want to borrow these equipments, how can they express their words? Encourage them to use the sentence “Can/May I borrow ……. ?”
Step 2 呈现
Explain to students that “can, could, may and might” can be used to ask for permission or give permission. Each has different degrees of formality.
Ask students to read the sentences in the table on top of page13. One student asks a question, the other answers it.
问学生对于Could I go to the zoo tomorrow, Mum?的回答能否用Yes, you could. / No, you could’ t.
强调:could是can的过去式,但在表示委婉的请求时,could不是can的过去式,回答时用can或cannot.
Tell students we don’t use “mayn’t”.
3.Tell students that Simon wants to make a space kit. He is asking people to lend him things. He is not sure how formal his language should be. Help Simon ask for permission and find out what replies he is getting, Ask students to choose the better words from the brackets on page13.

Ask students if they think Simon should look for something else to put into his space kit. Encourage them to do more oral practice.

Step 1.Greetings.

Step 3Practice.
Present that an object clause functions as the object in a sentence. It can be put after some verbs such as think, believe and know. It can also follow some adjectives such as certain and sure.

Present that we can get different kind of forms of the object clause by the different types of sentences.

2. General Questions
Have the police found out the murderer yet? We don’t know.

3. Wh-questions.

Ask the class to work in pairs to help Daniel to rewrite the sentences on Page 15 Part C1 using “if” or “whether” to make clauses.
