Teaching aims Aims of knowledge:1. Students will be able to ask and answer the questions using the sentence pattern “ What’s this It’s a / an…”2. Students will be able to read the words: butterfly, dragonfly , ladybird and cicada.Aims of ability:1. Students will be able to ask questions using the sentence pattern “ What’s this ” and compliment with “It’s cute.”. 2. Make sure that Ss can read and understand the meaning of ladybird, cicada, butterfly, dragonfly and cute.3. Make sure that Ss can understand the usage of the sentence.Aims of emotion:1.Make sure that Ss understand insects are our friends, we need to protect them.
Focuses 1. Read and say the insects: ladybird, cicada, butterfly, dragonfly and the word: cute.2. Students will be able to ask and answer the questions using the sentence pattern “ What’s this It’s a / an…”3.Understand the meaning of the story time.

Teaching procedures
Step 1 Warming up(10′) Introduce two friends: Dora and LouiseGuessing game: what’s in my bagThere is a bag ask the students what is in the bag, review the word they have learned before.T: What is it S: It is a ….Do it several times.(review the sentence pattern what is it )
Step 2 Presentation and practice(10′) 1). Ask the students a new question: What is this (show them a finger to know the distance between two things)T: What is this read after me “this” (Teach them the word this and show the meaning)2). T shows some pictures of a butterfly, and try to ask them the new question using the sentence pattern “ What’s this It’s a / an…” T: What is this S:It is a butterfly.(teach the Ss word butterfly) 3). T shows some different pictures and use the same ways to teach the word: ladybird, dragonfly and cicada.4). Look and learnTry to make the Ss read the four new words and can pronounce well.
Step 3 Practice and production(15′) 1). Play a game What’s missing, take away one of the new words and make them guess and say the word aloud.

Reflection 该节课主要要求孩子初步掌握四个昆虫类新单词:butterfly, dragonfly, cicada, ladybird. 初步掌握两个新句型“ What’s this It’s a /an…从孩子们的掌握情况来看,句型掌握较好,但是单词dragonfly的发音还有待提高。需要老师在下节课继续重点指导一下。
