Improve the students’ writing ability.
II.Teaching important point:
1.Get students to learn how to make every sentence appropriate and precise.
2.Let the students understand and master the layout,sentence structures and linking words effectively.
III.Teaching difficult point:
Lead students to master the way to use advanced and various sentence structures.
IV.Teaching methods:
1.Process-focused writing approach
2.Group work cooperative learning.
V.Teaching aids:ppt documents
VI.Teaching procedure:
Step1.Pre-writing:
Lead-in:Explain to students what’s argumentative essay and the three elements of it.
Step2.While-writing:
Activity1.Work in groups. Read the quotations and discuss their meanings.
◆Do not do to others what you do not want others to do to you.

◆Good fences make good neighbours.
——Proverb
◆The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood.
——Ralpb G. Nichols
Activity2. Choose one quotation and discuss the following points:
◆ its main message
◆how it applies to everyday life, giving examples
◆what we can learn from the quotation
Activity3 .Present your ideas to the class. Use the expressions in the box to help you.
Useful expressions
◆We have chosen to talk about the quotation....
◆The main message of this quotation is...
◆In daily life, ...
◆Another example is...
◆In conclusion, this quotation teaches us that...
Step3.Post-writing
Summarize the common sentence patterns of argumentative essays.
1. ...held/participated in a heated/lively discussion about/on...
2.When it comes to...,different people hold different views.3But every coin has two sides.The negative aspects are also apparent.
4. From my point of view, I prefer...because...
5.As long as we..., its advantages outweigh its disadvantages.
VII.Homework
最近你班同学就合作学习(cooperative learning)的利弊展开讨论。请你根据提示内容用英语写一篇短文，介绍此次讨论情况,并谈谈你的看法,然后发表到你校的英语论坛上。
利:
1.节省时间、提高效率;
2.一起解决难题、相互学习
弊:
1.容易养成依赖性;
2.老师难以了解每个学生的情况
注意:1.词数80左右;2.可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。
