Sir Nicholas Winton
Sir Nicholas Winton(1909-2015) was born in London. On the eve of World War II, he was just a broker at the London Stock Exchange, but he single-handedly established an organization to aid children from Jewish families at risk from the Nazis and managed to rescue 669 children from Czechoslovakia. Then he found them homes in Britain to help them escape the massacre.The secret was kept for half a century until his wife found his journal when a television programme episode made by BBC was broadcast in 1988, and only then did his rescue achievements finally become known to the world. The British press called him the “British Oskar Schindler” and the children he rescued, “Winton's children”.
