whether / if及疑问词引导的宾语从句
二、连接词的分类及其功能。
1. 一般疑问句变宾语从句,用if或whether引导,意为“是否”。若宾语从句后面没有or not,两个都可以用;若从句后面有or not,一般要用whether。如:
I am not sure if/whether you are right. 我不确信你是否正确。
I want to know whether he will come or not.
我想知道他是否会来。
2. 特殊疑问句变宾语从句,只需用原来的疑问词引导。
(1)疑问代词有:who,whom,whose,which,what,在句中作主语、宾语、定语或者表语。如:
Can you tell me whom you are waiting for?
你能告诉我你在等谁吗?
(2)疑问副词有:when, where, why, how在句中作状语。如:
None of us knows where he bought this car.
我们没有人知道他在哪儿买的这辆车。
三、宾语从句的语序。
宾语从句的语序必须是陈述语序,即“疑问词+主语+谓语+其他成分”的语序。将疑问句转换成宾语从句时,一定要将疑问句语序转换成陈述句语序。如:
She can’t decide whether to stay or not.
她无法决定是否留下。
Could you tell me when the train will leave?
你能告诉我火车什么时候离开吗?

Pen friends
Many people make friends by writing letters. One day to find a pen friend is to join a club. International Pen Friend started in 1967 and has over 300,000 members in different countries. Their youngest member is eight years old, and their oldest member is over eighty. Some people write to find out about life in another. Others want to practise their foreign languages or share their hobbies. Stamp collections, for example, write to people in different countries so that they can collect the stamps on the letters they receive. Most people just enjoy making friends, and they invite their pen friends to visit them.
