Rules: 直接引语是 别人的原话,原话用引号,而间接引语是 的话,不用 。间接引语在多数情况下构成宾语从句。

直接引语是直接引述别人的原话,原话用引号,而间接引语是引述别人的话,不用引号。间接引语在多数情况下构成宾语从句。
直接引语转换成间接引语时应注意几个变化:
1. 不再有逗号,引号
2. 要考虑人称的变化, 由直接引语变为间接引语,代词的人称转换可用“一主,二宾,三不变”来概括.
3. 要考虑时态的变化.
A.主句谓语是现在时,从句的时态不变
B. 主句谓语是过去时,从句的时态要相应地降一级
一般现在时(do/does) ———一般过去时(did)
一般将来时 (will do) ——— 过去将来时(would do)
现在进行时(is/are doing) ——过去进行时(was /were doing)
现在完成时(have/has done)——过去完成时(had done)
一般过去时(did) ———过去完成时(had done)
C. 直接引语改为间接引语时时态不变的情况
a) 当表示的是客观事实或真理的时候,时态不变。
The teacher told us , “The sun rises in the east.”
The teacher told us that the sun rises in the east.
b) 强调的动作或状态现在仍然存在, 时态不变。
Yesterday Jack said to me, “My cousin is still alive.”
Yesterday Jack told me that his cousin is still alive.
c)当直接引语中有绝对具体的过去时间作状语时,间接引语中保持原来的一般过去时。
He said, “ I joined the army in 1934.”He said he joined the army in 1934.

First, we should know how many syllables these words have, and then divide these syllables.

When we read a word which has two or more than two syllables, we need to pay attention to its stress.
Step 2 Presentation
Such as: “‘Ob·ject’” is a noun. It means ‘a thing’. “‘Ob·ject’” is a verb. It means ‘to say that you disagree with something’.
Step 3 Listening and Concluding
There are six pairs of words, listen to the tape, which syllable do you put the stress on?
Listen to part B on page 112.
These are the noun form of the words we put the stress on the first syllable so that you pronounce the words as nouns.
Listen to part C on page 112.
These are the verb forms of the words we put the stress on the second syllable so that you pronounce the words as verbs
Step 4 Practice
Try to make notes of where the stress is. Write a V if the word is pronounced as a verb; write a N if it is pronounced as a noun. Then finish the exercise part D on page 112.
Listen to part A on page 112, paying attention to the different stresses, and practice pronouncing these parts of words correctly, then try to make sentences with other pairs of words.
