一般过去时表示过去某个时间或某一段时间内发生的动作或存在的状态，常与表示过去的时间状语连用，如yesterday， yesterday afternoon，last week，in 2014，three years ago，at that time等。

Grammar Focus
一般过去时也表示过去某一段时间经常或反复发生的动作，常与often， always等表示频度的时间状语连用。如：
Jim usually exercised when he was young. 吉姆年轻的时候经常锻炼。
I often played soccer after school last year. 去年我经常在放学后踢足球。
1. 一般过去时的基本句式：
be动词 句式 结构 举例
肯定句 主语＋was / were＋其他. She was ill last week. 她上周生病了。
They were late yesterday. 他们昨天迟到了。
否定句 主语＋was not (wasn’t)+其他. 主语+were not (weren’t)＋其他. She wasn’t ill last week. 她上周没有生病。
They weren’t late yesterday. 他们昨天没有迟到。

2. 动词过去式的变化规则：

以不发音的字母e结尾的动词，在词尾加-d live→lived, use→used, hope→hoped, die→died
以“辅音字母+y”结尾的动词，变y为i，再加-ed study→studied, worry→worried, cry→cried, try→tried
以一个辅音字母结尾的重读闭音节，双写辅音字母，再加-ed stop→stopped, drop→dropped, plan→planned, prefer→preferred
