Summary of Act 1 Scene 3
Henry Adams, an American businessman, had some very bad luck. He was lost in London. He had no money and did not know what he should do. When he was walking down the street, he was invited into a house. Two brothers asked him a lot of questions and promised to help him. They gave him a letter, which Henry couldn’t open it until two o’clock. In fact, they made a bet on him. Now, after leaving their house, Henry ……
Step 2 Reading
Scanning: find out the characters in the scene
Task 1:
Role play the text as groups of four and then explain some new words and expressions.
Task 2:
T or F questions:
1.Henry had opened the letter before he came into the restaurant.
2.The owner treated Henry impolitely when he noticed Henry’ appearance..
3. Henry ordered some bread.
4. When Henry saw the million pound bank- note, he was happy and proud of it.

Task 3:
Ask students to underline the sentences which show Henry was treated impolitely and then practice reading them in a rude manner.

Step 3 Acting
Ask two groups of students to act out Act 1 Scene 4
Give several minutes for students to prepare and offer help if necessary.
Step 4 Speaking
Show the video: at the tailor’s shop. Ask students to enjoy it and make a short dialogue according to the scene.
Step 5 Sum up and Homework
Write a new scene of the play and show the following on the screen to help students.
