Are you curious about how busy students are in the United States Well, we are always busy. We have a lot of homework, but not as much as Chinese students. But we are not just busy working on our studies. As the saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”
First, we have after-school clubs. We finish school early, around 2:40 pm. Then we go to our clubs from 3 pm to 4 pm. There are several kinds of clubs, such as those for arts, sports and culture. I love after-school clubs because I can learn and socialize (社交).
Another kind of common after-school activity is playing on school sports teams. These teams train hard so they can win games against other teams during the competitive season. I have a friend who is on a girls’ basketball team. It is basketball season now, so she trains every day after school from 3 pm to 8 pm. There is just a one-hour break.
The school band’s rehearsal (排练) period is also held after school. I am in a school band. We rehearse once a week every Monday from 4 pm to 7 pm.
Finally, a lot of us do volunteer work on the weekends. We need 15 to 20 volunteer hours each semester (学期) in order to graduate. I often go to the food bank, which is a food donation organization, to work as a volunteer. I’m usually pretty tired after I finish volunteering each week. The work is sometimes boring, but I know I’m working for the good of society. So I enjoy it.

D. There are better after-school activities in the US than in China.

When I was two years old, I was diagnosed with a hearing loss. My mother cried when she found out—she wanted her son to be happy and able to experience everything life had to offer. I went to a special playgroup twice a week where a nurse discovered I had taught myself to read. At the age of five I attended a school for the deaf from age three to six.
I remember looking around the room there. People talked and signed to each other. I had a best friend and I did very well in class. But I told my mother that I wanted to go to the regular school with hearing people, because I felt more like a hearing person than a hearing-impaired (听力受损) one. I didn’t even use sign language! I lip-read and listened with my hearing aids. After visiting a public school for a day, my mother agreed to let me go. Without doubt, I have functioned very well.
Many people don’t even know I am hearing-impaired until they see my hearing aids. My classmates often forget that I have any problem, and I feel fortunate that they do not look down upon people like me. The only problem I have with this hearing loss is that some people discriminate against me. The fact is that I am just as normal as anyone else. The only differences are that others need to speak up, and I have some help from my hearing aids.
The next time you see hearing-impaired people, don’t feel sorry for them because that just gives them an excuse to mistreat themselves and hurt their own advantages. Instead, encourage them and tell them that a disability only hurts a person if he or she lets it.
9. Which is TRUE about the author when he was 5
A. He went to a special playgroup. B. He attended a school for the deaf.
C. He stayed at home with his mother. D. He was diagnosed with hearing loss.
10. Why did the author want to attend the regular school
A. He even didn’t know sign language.
B. He had few friends at the deaf school.
C. He didn’t believe his handicap was a big problem.
D. He found it very hard to get along with his classmates.
11. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “functioned” in Para.2
A. remembered B. translated. C. challenged. D. performed.
12. What can we infer from the last sentence
A. A disabled person should be well treated.
B. If a person is disabled, he will hurt himself.
C. The disabled should regard themselves as normal.
D. A normal person is disabled, he will hurt himself.

Losing weight is tough for most people, it requires a change in diet, a change in exercise habits, and a change in attitude. Here's how you can achieve all the three.
13 .
If you're overweight and want to change that, the first step is deciding what your target weight is. Write down your goal and set a date by which you want to achieve that goal.
14 .
Making major behavior changes isn't something that happens overnight. So start with 1-2 things per week and work up from there. Keep eating 5 servings of vegetables a day, exercise 2 days a week for the first week, and then add a little more each week.
15 .
Now it's time to start working towards that goal. The best way to stick with your diet and exercise rules is to track it. There are plenty of apps that allow you to do this. Or you can do it in an old way and keep a written food and exercise journal. Find what works for you and write down what you've achieved every day.
Evaluate and adjust.
Every month you should take a look at your goal and see what type of progress you've made towards achieving it. If you're not where you want to be, make small adjustments. Try doing different exercises or cutting back on certain types of foods that you may be eating too much of. 情景作文 :
One possible version:
World Water Day
On March 22nd, the World Water Day, our school organized various activities to increase awareness of the importance of water.
In the morning an expert from the Ministry of Water Resources gave us a talk on limited water resources in China. In the afternoon some students visited the waste water treatment plant where they learned how water was recycled. Some other students went to an exhibition on water saving devices, and they brought back good ideas and tips for saving water in daily life. For example, we had better take shorter showers and turn off the tap while brushing our teeth. It’s also best to reuse waste water from the washing machines to clean the floor.
At the end of the day, one student suggested we make every day a water saving day. All students supported it.
