Unit 9 What does he look like
一、单元分析
本单元围绕“描述人物的外貌”来展开各种教学活动。通过对人物身高、体重、头发等外貌特征的学习，使学生达到能够生动、形象地描述人物肖像的目的。通过本单元的学习，使学生学会如何从不同角度、不同方面对人物的外貌特征进行详细的描述。
本单元的中心话题是“Physical appearance”，学生的学习活动始终在真实的生活场景中展开，各种描述性的形容词贯穿其中，为教学内容提供了必要的感性材料。
二、学情分析
学生在前面的单元中已经学习了介绍人物的方法，学会了谈论人们的国籍、居住城市、所说语言、爱好及兴趣，通过互相交流获取所需的信息。在此基础上，通过本单元的学习，学生可以进一步谈论人物的外貌来进行更深入的交流，有利于学生知识范围的延伸，也是学生乐意交谈的话题。本单元话题源于实际生活，能够激发学生说英语的欲望。

(1)look like意为“看起来像；看起来是……样子”。此处的like是介词，意为“像；像……一样”。如：
①He looks like his brother.他看起来像他的哥哥。
②Does a bat look like a mouse？蝙蝠看起来像老鼠吗？
(2)of medium height意为“中等个子(身高)”。of medium build意为“中等身材”。
【辨析】be like意思与look like相同，但look like意为“看上去像”，强调外观上像，be like意为“像……一样”，指品德、相貌等，更侧重人的个性特征。如：
①The two girls are like their mother.这两个女孩性格像她们的妈妈。
②They look like their father.他们看上去像他们的父亲。
2．描述人外表的句型
(1)句型一：sb.＋be＋描写人长相的形容词。如：
She is short/tall/heavy/thin.她个子矮/高/胖/瘦。
(2)句型二：sb.＋have/has＋名词。如：
She has long black hair/big eyes.她有一头黑色的长发/一双大眼睛。
(3)句型三：sb.＋wear/wears＋服饰。如：
She always wears a red dress and white shoes/sunglasses.
她总是穿红裙子、白鞋/戴太阳镜。
(4)句型四：用介词with或in接名词组成的介词短语作定语。如：
①She is a girl with long curly hair.
＝The girl has long curly hair.

(1)“Is he tall or short？”是一个选择疑问句，回答时一般要选择其中之一。如：
－Is your friend a boy or a girl？你的朋友是男孩还是女孩？
－She's a girl.是女孩。
(2)or意为“或；或者；还是”，用来表示选择或可能。如：
He is having lunch or having class.他可能在吃中饭或在上课。
在否定句中，并列成分的列举常使用or，构成完全否定，表示“也不”。如：
He doesn't like English or math.他不喜欢英语，也不喜欢数学。
【辨析】high和tall都有“高”的意思。
(1)high一般表示物的高度，不指人的高，还可以指抽象的高，如物价、速度、温度、品质、评价等方面的高。它的反义词是low。相关词组：high price(高价), high fever(高烧)等。
(2)tall可指身材的高度，一般用于人和动物，它的反义词是short。
