The calm genius Zhang Changhong took the last shooting gold of the Tokyo Olympics on August 2. With 466 points, he set a new world and Olympic record in men’s 50-metre rifle three positions (男子五十米步枪三姿). The 21-year-old became the youngest Olympic gold medalist in the event. The diving prodigy Quan Hongchan 跳水天才全红婵
The 14-year-old diver Quan Hongchan, China’s youngest athlete in the Tokyo Olympic Games, won the gold medal in the women’s 10-metre platform final when she scored perfect 10s in three of her five dives. She barely made a ripple (水花) in the water during her final’s performance and tallied (记分) 466.2 points to dominate (主导) the field.
Born in a small village in South China’s Guangdong Province, Quan started diving when she was 7 years old. The reason why she chose to become an athlete is heartbreaking (令人心碎的) —she wanted to win prizes as early as possible to help her seriously ill mother.
