一、含义
一般过去时表示过去某一特定时间发生的动作或存在的状态，也表示过去一段时间内经常或反复发生的动作或存在的状态，常和表示过去的时间状语连用。常见的与一般过去时连用的时间状语有yesterday, last night, last week, last Saturday, the day before yesterday, three days ago, just now, in 2008等。

3. 以“辅音字母＋y”结尾的动词，变y为i，再加 ed。
4. 以一个辅音字母结尾的重读闭音节动词，先双写最后一个辅音字母，再加 ed。

三、一般过去时的用法
(1)表示过去某个特定时间内发生的动作或存在的状态。
I played football with my friends after school yesterday.
昨天放学后我和我的朋友一起踢足球了。
(2)表示过去经常或反复发生的动作或存在的状态，常与often, always, sometimes等频度副词连用。
He always went to school by bus last year. 去年他总是乘公共汽车上学。
(3)表示过去连续发生的一系列动作。
The students got up early in the morning, did morning exercises and then read English aloud in the open air.
