time, we always attended many training courses at weekends. So we felt very tired all the time.
However, with the support of the “double reduction” policy, though we go home late, we
have more interesting activities we like, like playing football and other ball games, learning
playing the piano and violin, handwriting, drawing and so on. We feel very excited when we join
in these activities. Moreover, we can have more time to communicate with our parents because we

Not all the children like to eat vegetables. But what if a garden is built in the school New research suggests that a gardening program in schools can increase children's vegetable intake.
How the Study Was Carried Out
The study was carried out in eight schools, each school was in the gardening program for one school year. Every child in grades 3-5 received a total of eighteen 60-minute lessons across the school year. In the program, each school built a garden, where children learned to grow their own fresh produce, like fruit and vegetables.
The Benefits Children Could Get
The study found that vegetable intake increased greatly across the year if the children who grew their own produce . Related studies show that increased vegetable intake can improve health and cut the risk of chronic diseases (慢性疾病).
Any chance to let children learn about vegetables is meaningful. "If children are learning about vegetables at school, it's important to encourage this interest," says Jones. Parents can listen to their children about what they have learned from school. Younger children can enjoy reading stories about vegetables with parents. Older children may enjoy searching through cookbooks with parents to find new dinner ideas to cook vegetables in a tasty way. Besides, a small planter box in a sunny part at home can encourage children to understand more about where their food comes from.
Teaching children to grow their own produce is a great way to increase their preference for the produce. If children are taught to enjoy vegetables early in life, they will probably continue eating vegetables in the long term.
What’s the meaning of “intake” in paragraph 1
A place where vegetables can grow.
A place where air enters a machine.
The number of people who are allowed to enter a school.
The amount of food, drink and so on that you take into your body.

On Dec. 9, 2021, three Chinese astronauts gave a science lecture 400 kilometers above Earth. Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu, who are working abroad the Tiangong space station, showed millions of students their life there. They also did some fun science experiments. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Use it or lose it
The human body grows with the pull of Earth’s gravity (重力). But in space, our bones and muscles ( 肌 肉 ) don’t need to sustain our body’s weight. This will cause bone and muscle loss. NASA says that astronauts can lose up to 20 percent of their muscles after just a couple of weeks. That is dangerous because they will be too weak to work.
Astronauts have different ways to prevent this. During the lecture, Zhai introduced a special uniform Ye was wearing. It’s called a “penguin suit”. There are many elastic bands ( 弹力带) inside the suit. Wearing it, astronauts use their muscles to stretch(拉紧) the bands. This keeps their muscles strong.

During another experiment, Wang made a water film (膜). Then she added more water which drops onto the film to make it a water ball. This can never happen on Earth. Why
We need to first understand the surface tension ( 表面张力) of water. It is like a “skin” of
water. The “skin” is there because water molecules (分子) are drawn to each other. Most of the time, gravity is too strong and it breaks the “skin”. But with zero gravity in space, the “skin” stays strong and the water ball will not break.
Water in space acts differently from water on Earth in other ways. For example, water will not flow downward if you try to pour it into a cup. That’s why astronauts usually drink water through straws(吸管) in closed bags.
What can we learn about the lecture from space A.It is a part of the astronauts’ daily work.
It took place 4,000 kilometers above Earth.
It took place in the Tiangong space station.
It is one of the astronauts’ ways to ask for help.
What does the underlined word “they” in the passage refer to
A.bodies B.muscles C.stones D.astronauts 10.Which of the following is the best to fill in “ ▲ ” in the passage
A.Space water is different B.Space water is valuable
C.Space water is important D.Space water is common 11.What’s the writer’s purpose in this passage
To ask students to do more science experiments(实验).
To explain the importance of the space experience.
To raise people’s interest in space exploration(勘探).
To introduce the space lecture given by Chinese astronauts.

A zero-waste life is a lifestyle that hardly creates any rubbish.
“Zero waste” was first suggested by a French woman called Bea Johnson. Her idea is: live a life and try not to create any rubbish; use different kinds of ways to save the environment, such as stopping the use of one-off (一次性) objects; giving unwanted things to others or donating these things to organizations like the Red Cross.
A zero-waste life follows the 6R rule—Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle and Rot. Chen Yuan, 27, is deeply interested in this idea. She and her boyfriend Joe have lived in Beijing for many years. Over August-October when Chen followed the rule of zero waste 6R, she and her boyfriend both produced only two cans of rubbish. Now the couple have opened a small but special shop in Beijing, where they use wood products to take the place of plastic ones and cloth bags printed with environmental logos. The store also has second-hand books and CDs to make the best of the used things.
“The zero-waste lifestyle is not for ascetics(苦行僧). It is just around us.” Chen expects some
of her friends to join her on the road to zero waste.
What advice does Bea Johnson give people A.People should use wooden products.
People should try to create no rubbish.
People should throw away unwanted things.
People should learn to share second-hand books and CDs.
What does the underlined word “donating” in paragraph 2 mean A.looking for B. putting on C.throwing away D.giving away 14.What’s the special about the couple’s store in Beijing
They use cloth bags printed by themselves.
They offer the newest CDs to the customers.
They make full use of second-hand books in their store.
They offer plastic products printed with environmental logos.
15.What can we infer from what Chen Yuan says in the last paragraph A.Some of her friends like her lifestyle.
The zero-waste lifestyle is not hard to live.
Chen Yuan doesn’t like the zero-waste lifestyle.
Lots of people have lived the zero-waste lifestyle.

Born in 1948 in Los Angeles, California, in the United States, Mark Levine is now a singer, song-writer and English teacher. After working as a volunteer in low-income(收入) communities in the US for nearly 30 years, Levine came to China and worked as an English teacher 16 years ago. Levine didn’t realize at the time that he would soon come to fall in love with the country and end up staying here.
Levine likes to write songs and sing along to them with his guitar. So far, Levine has written more than seventy songs about China, with a wide variety of themes such as traveling, workers, Chinese culture and so on.
In 2020, the unexpected outbreak of COVID-19 changed him a lot. During the time, he said, “I was mostly stuck inside my apartment teaching online classes for three months. At the same time, I spent lots of time talking with my close friends I knew across China and abroad on line to learn the information about the outside.” He learned how the government and the Chinese people worked together to fight the virus( 病 毒 ), he was moved and he really wanted to write it down. Levine said that Chinese people had a collective sense that “we are all in this together”.A song about it was added to his large collection of musical stories about his life in China, the song’s
name is “Together we must take a stand -fight the novel coronavirus.”
“I’ve never felt unsafe in China about anything, including COVID-19. I’m glad I am here,” he said.
