Teaching and Learning Goals:
Contest to learn how to read ,remember and practice the use of the new words in this unit . Try to talk about how to get to places. How long questions and How far questions .Develop the students’ team-spirit.
Teaching and learning steps
Step 1: Learn to read the words
1. First let the students try to read the new words according to the phonetics given by themselves and underline the difficulties they meet.
2. Then ask Ss to discuss the difficulties and correct their pronunciation in pairs.
3. Next get individual students to read the new words to the class, the others listen .Then correct the mistakes with the teacher’s help.
4. Last get the students to read the words twice after the tape to consolidate the pronunciation.
Step 2: Learn to remember the words
Make a competition in groups! Ask Ss to try their best to remember new words.

Step 3: Consolidation of words
Give the students a few minutes to try to memorize the words first . Then get them to work in pairs to spell the words or write down the words with the Chinese given in Zhuxue. Underline the words they haven’t grasped.
The teacher can also give some important words and get the students to try to have a short dictation.
Step4: Make up the story
Read the text to guess the meaning of new words .
Garden High School is a new school. The students there come to school by different means of transportation. Sixty students walk to school, eighty-nine students ride their bikes, seventy students walk to the bus stop to take the buses, ninety-two students live more than one hundred far away from their homes, so they go to school by subway every day. It takes them about fifty minutes. Teachers are very kind, they are like the students’ parents. They usually drive their cars to work.
For many students there, it is easy to get to school. But for the students in one village in China, it is difficult. There is a big river between their school and the village. There is no bridge and the river runs too quickly for boats. So these students go on a ropeway to cross the river to school, but they are not afraid. The students and the villagers never leave their village. It is their dream to have a bridge. I think of their dream must come true in several years.
Step 5: Mind map
Students need to go to school on school days. Different students come to school by different transportation. (让学生找出没记住、没理解的单词词组,并重点记忆。)

Learning Goals
Enable the students to listen to and talk about how to get to places with such patterns as“ How do you get to…? /How does he/she get to…?”
And ask the time and the distances to get to places with “How long does it take…? How far is it from…to…?” Learn to use “take the bus/train/subway, ride a bike…” correctly. And this will make the students know the differences of getting to places.
