Ice storms are not violent storms. Instead they are commonly perceived(认为) as gentle rains which occur at temperatures just below zero degrees Celsius(摄氏度).

1. Why was the storm in 1998 unusual in Canada
Because it was not ordinary rain—it turned to ice as it fell through the cold air. It rained for six days and as much as ten centimentres of ice collected on roads, trees and power lines.
