二、过去进行时的用法
过去进行时表示过去某一时刻正在发生的动作,常与at that time / moment, then, at 9:00 p.m., yesterday等时间状语连用。
过去进行时表示过去某一段时间内持续的动作,常与those days, the whole morning, from 7:00 to 9:00 yesterday evening 等时间状语连用。
过去进行时表示在过去某一个动作发生时,另一个动作正在发生。

过去进行时的构成 肯定句:主语+was/were+doing I was watching TV at eight yesterday evening. 昨天晚上8点我在看电视。
否定句:主语+was/were not+doing I wasn’t watching TV at eight yesterday evening. 昨天晚上8点我没在看电视。
一般疑问句: Was/Were+主语+doing 回答用:Yes, 主语+was/were. 或No, 主语+wasn’t/weren’t. —Were you watching TV at eight yesterday evening 昨晚8点你在看电视吗? —Yes, I was./No, I wasn’t. 是的,我在看电视。/不,我没看电视。
特殊疑问句:特殊疑问词+was/were+主语+doing What were you doing at eight yesterday evening 昨天晚上8点你在做什么?
过去进行时的用法 表示过去某一时刻正在做某事,时间状语通常为过去某一具体时间,如at eight last night, at six yesterday morning, at this time yesterday, at that time等等。 They were reading English at seven yesterday morning. 昨天早上七点他们正在读英语。 I was listening to music at eight last night. 昨晚八点我正在听音乐。 I was playing football at this time yesterday. 昨天这个时候我正在踢足球。
表示过去的某段时间正在做某事。 I was reading a novel last night. 昨晚我在看小说。(昨晚正在看,可能没看完)
while的用法 while表示 “当……的时候” 时,从句中的动词必须是延续性动词;如果主从句动作都是延续的或同时发生的,那么主从句的动词都可用过去进行时。 While I was cleaning the windows, my brother was sweeping the floor. 我在擦窗户的时候,我弟弟在扫地。 Some students were playing football, while others were running round the track. 一些学生在踢足球,同时别的学生正在跑道上跑步。 While he was waiting for the bus, he was reading a newspaper. 他边等车边看报。
when的用法 when表示 “当……的时候” 时,既可指时间点,也可指时间段(即从句动词可以是短暂的也可是延续的);主从句动作可同时也可先后发生。 It was raining hard when I left my office. 当我离开办公室时,雨下得正大。 When you called, I was eating. 你打电话时,我正在吃饭。 We were walking along the river when it rained. 我们沿着河边散步,突然下起雨来。 They were watching TV when the lights went out. 停电时,他们刚好在看电视。
